My name's Matt and I have been a type one diabetic since a week before my first birthday. I'm currently 24 and am on Humulin-L and R injections for treatment. Diabetes runs through my family bloodline like a semi. My mom, uncle, aunt, and some of my cousins have it. My doctor made the comment that if I was to have children, there's about a 1 in 3 chance of them turning up diabetic also. My sugars stay fairly well under control with numerous bloodtests (about 10-15 per day).

Some of my hobbies include computers, cars, and watching movies. I have a large collection of DVD's and if you ever want to talk movies, I'm your man. I'm currently in college and am majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

Howdy Matt,

Welcome to our functionally challenged but pleasantly happy family. Nice to see another Southerner on the board.

Those pesky Canadians are taking over ( J/K I'm married to one)

lg, is another movie man around here, bet y'all have lots of stuff to cover. I'm also sure that you'll be able to supply lots if insight in the Day-to-Day "Wonders of Diabetes" too.

Welcome again, Matt! So glad you decided to introduce yourself to the group and give us a little background info :) This is, IMHO and the view of many others here, the best group of Diabetics to be found anywere on the www or IRL, and I'm sure you'll enjoy. Feel free to post any questions or comments as we have a wonderfully supportive and fun gang.

Dx at the age of 1; WOW!!! I'm looking forward to reading your posts and I'm sure you'll be a great addition to our family!

I'm your age and Type 1 since 11 years old myself, with no family history of Diabetes in any shape or form. Like you I owe a lot of my successful control to testing on average of 10x/day, with the difference being that I am on a pump and NovoRapid (novolog).

Happy posting!!!

:topic: Hmmm rz I really like that; now I'm vertically and functionally challenged!! Hey anything worth having is a worth the challenge, right?!? ;)

That sounds a lot like me. I watch a lot of Monty Python, Mystery Science Theater, and Mel Brooks movies like Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles. I also have some tv shows on DVD such as The Simpsons, Futurama, and Sealab 2021.

I enjoy movies, too, although I'd enjoy them more if I were in THEM rather than the theater, but I have no talent so I must accept my lot in life. Oh, well.

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the forums. We do have a great bunch of people here.

I don't have diabetes, but my son Thomas does. He is 11 and was diagnosed a little more than a year ago.
