View Full Version : Beware of Kittens!!!!!

OK mental note to anyone who's got a kitten:
Kittens and Pumps DO NOT mix!!!!!

Picture this - I wake up this morning, grab my pump (which was up by my pillow, out of the covers) and go to put some PJ's on. While reaching into my drawer, I realize that the hand which is holding my pump is further away from my body than it should possibly be. Momentary confusion, until I see a short tail of tubing, about 10 inches, dangling free from the reservoir. This leads me to quickly inspect the tubing that is dangling from my infusion site, because I'm in absolute disbelief that the two are not connected!! So I check the short end of one, then the short end of the other as though my glare can magically connect the two again. No such luck. Don't think I've ever gotten dressed so fast, nor changed a site so quickly. When I checked my BG is was a ghastly 14.3 (257)!!!!! Thankfully it corrected down within about two hours, although I haven't been feeling on top of my game all day.
Eventually I found the section of tubing that my cat had chewed free - it was about 5 inches and she was still playing with it. How I slept through her performing tubal ligation ;) I'll never know.

From now on I'm either closing my bedroom door and locking her out, or else I'm going to have to break down and wear PJ's to bed.
And to top it all off, when I looked out the window this morning I was greeted by a blanket of snow and more coming down!!!

How I slept through her performing tubal ligation I'll never know. LOL Shy! Sorry to hear your kitty gave you a tubal ligation... Glad that you were able to get your blood back down pretty quickly, though. :D

Snow already?! Yikes...sounds like it's gonna be quite a winter!

Shy,

What a morning!! I take it you kitten tolerated the insulin ok.

I always fear that our dog will do that to Thomas' tubing at night. So far he has only chewed toys that are left on the floor!!

I know what you mean, Shy...my Toby has a mischevious streak himself. He seems to think that the pump's tubing is some kind of toy, but thankfully I haven't had your situation as of yet.

I hope you were able to get your sugars down pretty quickly and are doing better. I really think sometimes our pets are like toddleres the way they are into everything. Hopefully, that won't happen again anytime soon. :)

Thanks for the replies, ladies! :D
Maggie (the kitten) and I are both none the worse for wear; she's continued to be her hellion self and I'm still kicking. It was momentarily tempting to throw her out the door into a big drift of snow this morning, though  . My old cat used to play with my tubing but would never bite through it; age is one cause for temperateness, I suppose! :)

As for the snow, we have gotten about 5 inches so far and there's more forecasted for the week. It's going to be a long winter this year!

That is why I live in the SOUTH! lol, this weekend was sunny and a balmy 75-80 degrees Farenheit. I actually wore jeans on one day, but the rest was in shorts and flip-flops. My father had the sense enough to leave Michigan a long, long, long, time ago and never look back. We may have Hurricanes every now and then, but I don't think I could handle that much snow all the time.

Shy, don't give up your freedom from pijamas. Personally, I've never liked them, too confining. Live comfortably, and move the kittie to the next room. You should rename the little one to something more fierce, like Maggie the Terrible, or the Tubulator? Just a thought

Hopefully she's just teething and the chewing will stop when she's got all her adult teeth in.
