I've never really suffered from odd feelings when im high before, but this morning im waking up at 10.8 :( it's been well over an hour and i've had a correction shot about 15 minutes ago, i kinda feel hypo, shakey inside and a bit light headed... I usually just feel lathergic and pee more.
Anyone else feel like this when high? Is it normal?

This is the most annoying feeling in the world and it's why I can't rely on how I feel to determine what I think my BS is now.

Stu,
I'm a T2 so I guess things aren't necessarily the same, but I can say that I have had two occassions where I felt low all day and yet every time I test I was fine. The first time it happened it drove me mad all day, I eventually phone the Bayer support number because I felt sure the meter was gone belly up. After running the diagnostics the meter turned out to be fine. The following day all was normal. So not exactly the same but similar.

i didn't eat with the shot no, that would defeat the object of correcting ? lol
however, an hour after the shot i went UP to 11.8. grrr. took another shot of 2 units this time and i came down to 6.4 an hour later, then 4.2 before a walk to greggs for lunch, now im just about to eat lunch and im 3.2!

This just happened to me yesterday. I'm FINALLy getting some control over the sugars, so I've been running a slightly above normal range (150-200) for a few days now (which is much lower than what it's been for a while) and yesterday I somehow managed to get up to 396 - boy I thought I was having a low.
I agree - I freaking hate this **** too!

Yeah, I'm starting to get that way as well. On Saturday, at tailgate, everyone was getting ready to eat lunch because the burgers were finally done and I had just gotten back from Chick-Fil-A with my friend because she and I didn't want burgers. I went to check my bloodsugar because I didn't think it would a good idea to eat a salad since I felt like my sugar was really low, when I went to check my bloodsugar it was 399!!!! So, I checked my site, dosed about 5u and sat there and waited it out until it lowered enough for me to eat my salad. After a couple of hours it went down to 146, I changed my site and ate my salad. It was really weird!
Feeling like you are hypo while coming down from a high is a common condition called false hypoglycemia. It usually occurs when blood glucose is over 250. Google the term for the technical explanation.
I'm glad they finally discovered what it was. For years doctors said it was all in my imagination.

I'm glad you said that because I sat there for a long time wondering what the heck was going on!? HAHA! Even my fiancee stared at me for a while.

I have had that happen also. Usually, I just feel sick when I am high. But, I have had high blood sugar that has mad me dizzy and light headed. The other nasty side effects happened later.

I think about our bodies kinda like a house-plant... it needs just so much water, sunlight, air, plant-food... too little or too much of any of these upset the natural balance and the plant will suffer ;)

I recently drove down to AR with my family to pick up my husband. On the drive home, somewhere around upper OH near the PA border I started to feel hypo while driving. I pulled off at the 1st gas station I came to and checked my blood sugar. That in itself was an interesting experience as I was shaking so badly and my brain wasn't working correctly that I couldn't prick my finger. After 5 mins of trying I asked my husband to do it for me and to my surprise I was high and not low like I thought. Being a type 2 on meds only I wasn't sure what to do to lower it. It was a bit early for my Metformin but I took my dose anyway, ate some jerky and had my sister take over driving for an hour. When I started to drive again my blood sugar was back to normal.

I must be terribly confused...:( I take my insulin ( humlin R ) before meals and I was told that I must eat if shooting up????? what have I missed???
I hate diabeties too...
Hi Buttons,
You are doing the right thing.
Are you testing your blood sugar before you eat? If it is high (there are different opinions on what is "high"), you may add a "correction" to your regular meal dose. I test before each meal and if I'm over 140, I add enough to bring it down to 100.
People who are using a faster-acting insulin (Humalog, Novalog and others) usually test two or three hours after eating and correct at that time. It usually helps with overall blood sugar control.

I've had this more than once myself.
Also I've noticed sometimes other things can make me feel like I have low sugar, sometimes when I'm nervous or stressed. Ironically sometimes I'll start thinking about if I'm having low sugar, which makes me worry, and then feel even more like I'm having a low. Then when I test, I'm fine.

I think I understand what you mean. I sometime get this same feeling when my BS is over 160. I can't differentiate that from the feeling that I have when I'm low. Its confusing and frustrating..
