Okay. I joined this illustrious forum almost exactly one year ago--I found it very helpful and supportive and of course, informative. In less than two weeks I had posted enough to be on pace for about 1000 posts a year. But then my wife and I had our first child in early November, 2003. As much as I had anticipated that blessed event (I had about nine month's warning, after all), the total and complete way that little bundle of joy changed my life and way of doing things cannot be expressed, LOL. :p
So while learning to deal with my new bundle of joy, I took time off from all of my online forums and most other "real" social activities. Just about when things started to calm down, when Duck was getting a grip on how to deal with his most recent life change, my father had a stroke. So in the midst of one of the happier periods of my life, LIFE quickly reminded me that nothing can be taken for granted.
Fortunately, dad is recovering. I think back to a scary, cold night in February when a doctor told me that he had little hope that my dad would recover, and that my family would be making a tough decision about whether or not to artificially sustain him, and I compare that to this past weekend where dad and I watched football on TV and ranted about bad play and bad officiating, I realize that sometimes hope is all you have, and hope is all you need.
So, as if that were not enough stress on Duck and the family, I recently sold my old house, bought a new house and start a new job shortly. Remarkably, my blood sugar levels have been very good, and thanks to the members of this board, I have a more aggressive approach to my pump therapy. :whistling
So, I am back. :D
Some vitals: 31 year old (almost 32) male from Northern VA. Diagnosed as a Type 1 in 1990 right before Junior year finals in high school (when I was admitted to the hospital, my blood sugar levels were 800+ mg/DL--And I was concious). I like cars, most sports when I have time, and *****in' about politics. I'm a computer dude, but studied nutrition in college (go figure). I always feel like I could have used another hour of sleep, even before I became diabetic. And my favorite bands are Def Leppard and Bon Jovi, but you'll catch me listening to all variety of music, from Jay-z to Toby Keith to Bach.
