Hello DF friends, I would have the tests to end all Blood Tests and I fear that they will find something other than diabetes.
Man this is huge!!!, Can someone explain to me what these tests are as they are abbreviated as I know Jack S*** all of what these mean? :questionm
Obviously I would have to fast for 12 hours and collect Urine in the morning. So the list is TC, TA, HDC, LDC, UEC, LPC, HbA1C I know what that is LOL :D, FBE, Urine/Creat Ratio.
Confused yet, Whell I am sure are. HELP!!!

Looks to be just the standard full workup. TC, LPC, HDC and LDC are basically cholesterol & lipid tests. UEC is Urea Creatinine Electrolytes. Don't know what TA is. FBE is Full Blood Examination.
I get all these done once or twice a year. Sounds like they will take 3 vials (2 reds and 1 lavender, if they use the same coding Down Under as they do here).

Go get em Peter. Sweeping it under the rug will only hurt you in the long run. They can treat so many complications early these days. It's best to find out now than later. I've had out of range everythings at some time, and I'm now all not only within target but in most tests much better than most.

Peter, when I have blood tests done that I've never had before, I check out this site:
Lab Tests Online: Welcome! (http://www.labtestsonline.org)
I know it has helped me many times before. It offers explanations of what the test is and what it tests for.
Good Luck but I know you will be fine.:)

Ja John, Seems that at my age I would have to get better understanding all that's to be explained like I don't know my blood type.

Peter,
It sounds like a standard full blood workup, always good have this done everynow and then just to keep a handle on everything. You'll do fine.
The fasting can seem to be hard, drink water as it can help give you a full feeling and try to go to bed early.
Best of luck with all the tests but I'm sure it will be fine. Good to see your doctor is being so diligent.

When I did my blood test I ate a big meal at midnight then went to sleep. Woke up, drank some water, and was good to go.

When I do my fasting bloodwork - every 6 months. I am always told to not eat after 7-8pm the night before. But it helps to drink water and go to bed early.
Peter,
Keep us in the loop, I'm sure all is going to be fine :) Think positive :) :)

Ant,
yes, I can get a copy of the lab report if I want one. the doctor just photocopies it. i used to get them, but then it was just one more piece of paper in the house. Now I just record everything of import in my meter.

I don't know how I missed this thread Peter, I would have sent some hugs and what comfort I could. At least it is over and you spared me the worry! :) Why do you need to wait so long to see the results? I am glad it is over and you got to eat at MCDonald's, but be a good boy now and eat the way you know you have to! :)

Hope all goes well for you Peter. Sounds like your doctor is just doing a huge "normal" blood work-up. Let us know how it all goes buddy.

Thankyou Penny, The long wait is how they do things here however I can ask to do a free invoice meaning to get the blood work ahead of the appointment and that's an extra $5 and then again it's not that free is it. Also I can nominate the results to a doctor other than my own. :D

I don't think that this test is anyway normal Nancy. This is the mother of all tests in my opinion and it is a whole lot bigger than the INR that I do and the next INR is on 2nd of next month.

Peter,
Good to see your fasting is over, hope you enjoyed your McD's. It is a pity you have to wait so long for the results, or pay $5 for a "free" invoice!
Put it out of your mind for now, kick back and enjoy your weekend, I guess that spring must have sprung for you guys.
