Please provide more information. What are you eating, what are your blood glucose number and when, when what and how much are you injecting? Everybody will respond to insulin - the body is built that way, but the level of response varies by person.

Has your doctor mentioned metformin? It might decrease your body's insulin resistance and give you better results with less insulin.

How old are you jo? I went through a stage where i was taking almost double what i do now. The insulin i take has gradually decreased into my mid twenties, and i probably do more now!

i was one of the people who was on a trial for metformin (under the name glucophage) several years ago (i think it was in 94 or 95) and i'm type 1, though i've heard that it's more common for type 2 diabetics to take metformin, a lot of type 1s are on it too...

my diabetes is known as "insulin resistant type 1 juvenile diabetes" (long name, i know)... i was on humulin R and N when i started back in 92, in 98 i was put on huamlog and humulin N, and now i'm on humalog and lantus... the lantus is helping a lot... i used to take 30units of humalog 2x a day and 15 at lunch, and my levels were still high, but now with the lantus at 44u in the am and 44u at night, i barely take 5 to 7 of humalog 2x a day...

the trick with insulin resistance is that you have to find the right time and combinations of dosages for it to begin working... no two diabetics are alike, so the only thing that worked for me was trial and error...

How long have you had type one diabetes? If you are on a static amount of insulin for basal and bolus (meals) then you need to call your doctor and talk to him about raising the amount you are taking.

Generally, for a type one, when blood sugar is out of control you will take a small amount of "correction" insulin to lower your high numbers.

It sounds to me like you might be quite new to diabetes. Your doctor should be the one to help you understand what you need to do to lower your very high numbers.

Besides insulin, you can lower blood sugar rates by eating less carbohydrates, exercise and oral medications if you are insulin resistant.

Call your doctor. Your blood sugar is way to high.

i completely forgot to mention, if your levels started going up for no reason you can think of, it might be an infection...

I agree. If this problem is only a few days old you might be comming down with something. A cold, the flu, ear infection, infected cut etc. any infection or sickness can cause high blood sugars and increased insulin need.

OR, your insulin could have gone bad. It only happens once in a while, but when insulin goes off blood sugars rise a lot! How long have your bottles been open? Have they been exposed to heat? cold?

another thing i was thinking as well, insulin resistance tends to increase with weight/BMI. at 165cm and 53kg you are not very heavy at all in fact very tiny; not the normal profile of a 32 year old who is insulin resistant.....next question are you very recently diagnosed, i mean, have you lost quite a bit of weight and just started on insulin? if so its a really unpredicatable time anyway, i needed more insulin to keep stable the first few weeks i seem to remember.

I agree - how long have you been a diabetic? And what are you taking for your basal?
