Hi folks
Just wanted to share my thoughts (yet again!)....so, im constantly going on and on about how theres not really anything i cant eat in moderation. However, one thing I love yet avoid is fruit juice. I forgot how much i love orange juice, pineapple juice, apple juice....everything except grapefruit. Anyhow, I had friends staying last night so I had bought a huge container of freshly squeezed orange juice. admittedly we all had far too much wine last night and this morning i just CRAVED the OJ. so i thought, right, this is going to happen....in 20 minutes im going to drink about half a litre of OJ, so i took my 3 units on novorapid, and 15 mins later i could resist no longer, and i went nuts on the OJ it was delicious, and best part my 2 hour PP was 7.5 (135) which was pretty good I thought....so anyhow, today i have learnt that i can have OJ, as long as i pre-bolus (and if i dont it spells trouble!)

Not touched orange juice in a long time however I can't say I have any cravings for it :D My worst cravings are binge chocolate consumption which has got me into trouble when eating nuts with/after. Leaves you testing many hours after and correcting :D. I should nail it down more and consume more chocolate. No sense in giving up the things you love as long as you can stay in control :D.

Hi Lizzie,
OJ is one of my most regular hypo cures; for that reason, I know it whacks into me pretty quickly.
If I'm not hypo, I still drink it but it will only really be as part of a meal and then I just bolus for it at 10g per 100ml. If it's part of a meal that I've counted correctly, my 2 hour pp reading tends to be OK. It's really rare I'll drink it on its own unless I'm going doolally.

If you love fruit juices, try Ocean Spray CranRasberry juice lite. It is VERY low carb and delicious!
See? You have learned to cheat in the right way.
You covered yourself and them went at it.
Don't do it a lot but we all cheat.

i dont think its cheating its just learning to use the tools correctly. oh and of course learning to ignore all the poor advice given by the so called experts.
I even eat raisins -- 1/2, sometimes 2/3, of a cup in a sitting. Yum, yum.

Liz - you crack me up! I love "the OJ imperative". When I was a kid growing up in Orlando there was a bank on the Northwest corner of Colonial and Bumby that had a water cooler with 5 gallons of fresh OJ free for the chugging. I was a regular "customer".
You probably already know that a whole orange would be a better choice. I like to peel them then leave the sections in the freezer for 15 minutes. Also, you might try pouring a big glass then leave a spoon in it and freeze it overnight to slow down the blast of sugar. A little vodka in there is nice too.
Whatever you do, just make sure you have a backup plan in case you spill the whole jug or some similar disaster

I only drink OJ for a hypo but it is not something I crave.

I had been buying Tropicana Light & Healthy, less sugar and 1/2 the calories, but I am having no luck in finding it at my local grocery stoes. I have a funny feeling Tropicana stopped making it.

I too loved juice and just gave it up. Orange, apple and prune were my favorite. I would drink a 20 oz glass at a time, and I wonder how I ended up type 2, anyways, I don't think I have had 20 oz. all totaled since.
Now if I had to have some I would mix a few oz with a few oz of water to give me volume and reduce sweetness. And after breakfast instead of before like I used to.
