I am 46/guy/australia.I am a father, husband and have considerable responsibilities in life still.I have been diabetic for 2 years now.My bs was 300 fasting when diagnosed. I was on amaryl. I was obese. I have since lost 65 lbs and am now my correct BMI weight. I am also walking eating healthy and trying to do my best but I have difficult sugar levels which go quite high some times. I take care in eating right foods - i have a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of fenugreek daily. I am no longer on medication. I walk daily.I want to ask other diabetics what helps them. what doesnot help them.i want to know other diabetic type 2 folk.
I'm a type 1, so this may not be as applicable, but I have found that chromium picolinate or any chromium supplements do NOT help me at all. I'd be curious to know if any other Type-1's or 2's have noticed the same?
Also, it would seem my sugars and my health in general is better when I am lifting weights consistently enough to build muscle mass...I speculate it's because the extra muscle is obviously more active tissue that requires energy. I highly recommend anyone who is diabetic looking into getting into body-building--Not to compete and look like Arnold, but to build more muscle. And the strength gains come in handy at times too. :)

Welcome! It sounds like you're working hard. I'm sure loosing 65lbs has improved your health significantly. If you are still having high numbers, you could try working w/ a CDE (if you're not already) and talk to your doctor. You may need to take some meds. Also, you might want to look into the Glycemic Index, by eliminating foods on the high GI list you might be able to improve your control.
Nice to meet you,
HeatherP

Hello and welcome to the greatest forum! :)
I'm T2, been on Metformin for 17 days now. I was 10 years diet controlled only. Eating healthy, exercice, and no more burning the candle by both ends is the only way for me... although lately, seems my body needed extra help from medication. Still working hard though. One has to! For the last 2 weeks, I haven't had any high carb foods. This morning I've had the highest result in 4 days : 7.7 (140). And since my numbers aren't all over the place now, I'm getting over the flu faster than usual (it always ends up in a chest infection but not this time yay!), and I have more energy, I feel less depressed.
I don't know if that helps.
Take good care now!
Marie

Hi :)
Welcome to the friendliest forum on the net. I am a type 2 insulin dependent. :( dx'ed about 2 years ago but probably had it longer. I take 1 shot of insulin at night but feel that I will probably need something else. My bs have been all over the place lately but that is because I am under alot of stress both at home & work. :( My goal right now is to get back into shape and enjoy my life with my grandson & his mum. My age is 55.

Welcome to our fun family...you'll find many new friends here, and can share experiences and questions with everyone :) Losing weight as you have is a great step in the right direction. I, too, have been losing some (26 pounds) and am still working to lose more. What helped me was dropping the pasta and rice some. Every little bit helps. Just wanted to say welcome aboard and glad to have you with us. :)

Welcome aboard from another new guy. I agree with jenazon. You will find support and information here. The people are great and, most likely, you'll find someone who has been therre already. I have not found the answers to all of my questions here (yet?), but it helps to have others that are in the same situation to turn to. I think one of the most important things is to remember the 11th Commandment - Hangeth in there!
