I was diagnosed with this, which is a temporary condition where the tissue around the nerves swells up when you first start taking insulin. It started when I was diagnosed in May. It was mostly in my feet. My foot became extremely painful and I couldn't put the slightest touch on my feet for 3 months. I couldn't walk for 3 months and my toes became paralysed I couldn't move them. It was really painful.

My neurologist said inflammatory neuropathy. is temporary, but because nerves take longer than muscles to heal, it takes up to 6 months to recover. The neurologist said nerves grow 1mm a day and the muscle neurons would have had to heal before the nerves could have started to heal or something. It is caused by having uncontrolled blood sugars for a long period of time. Did you recover? My inflammatory neuropathy gets much worse on Lantus so I switched to Levemir.

I now only get a feeling of pin pricks and slight burning pain in my feet now, so it has improved a lot.

I think I may... I'm seeing my endo next wed, as mentioned before. I'm definitely thinking thats whats causing the swelling.

actually, i hadn't thought of that before... i have neuropathy in my legs and stomach, but my legs and hands swell a lot more than they used to since i changed to lantus... my feet have been swelling for more than 15 years, since i became diabetic, but i was told it was hormonal, which kinda made sense since i was 15 when i was diagnosed and female hormones go crazy at that stage of life... so i thought nothing of it...

but atleast once a week i get painfully swollen feet and ankles and my docs say it's just hormones again, this time they think i'm premenopausal, at 32, yeah right... ok, that's kinda early, but until i know otherwise, what else could i do...

which is why i'm glad to have found this thread... when i see my endo next month, i'll be sure to talk to him about it... cuz my legs right now are so swollen that it feels like there isn't enough skin left to stretch, and the tops of my feet don't fit anywhere, the only way i can go out is if i put my shoes on in the morning and don't take them off until i go to bed, which is in itself a pain...

my toes have been so stiff and stuck that i used to be able to curl them under my feet (make fists with your toes) but now i can't, i can't even move them without using my hands to do it...

it's amazing the amount of problems this one thing (diabetes) can cause... ok, amazing ain't the right word, more like annoying, stressful, painful, etc...

i'll be sure to update as i find out more...
