I don't know if all of you read the thread where I was talking about maybe having strep.

Well it got worse Thursday morning and my mom and my boyfriend took me to the ER and they did chest X-rays and I have pneumonia and DKA. They said the pneumonia caused the DKA.

I was in there until Sunday night. They had to put me in the ICU for the first night, then moved me to a regular room the next afternoon.

I have never been that sick in my life. Thats the first time I've ever had pneumonia too.

But I'm back home now, and feeling better but not great.

Nicole, I am so sorry that it turned out to be worse than strep - you must have felt really rotten. I'm glad you are feeling a bit better - give yourself time to heal. Pneumonia by itself is horrid but DKA and pneumonia is a double whammy.

Glad you are back home and feeling a bit better Nicole. Pneumonia is awful and I am sure you felt miserable. Take care of yourself.

Glad your home.

Yikes! I was worried about you. :( I had pneumonia when I was diagnosed with diabetes so I know how it goes. Glad you're ok!

Get well soon Nicole and take care of yourself. Never had pneumonia before but hubby has (non diabetic) and he was totally miserable. Have had DKA before and that bites royally !!!! :(

Nicole,
Glad you are home & on the mend.

My g'ma would get pneumonia fairly often and I remember her doc said that once you get it, it is easier to get it again. Hope that's not true but don't wait so long next time to get checked out!

Nicole, hope you're feeling stronger each day. It can take awhile to "get over" pneumonia. Feel better soon!

Just poppin' a note to say hey, Nicole.

I was in the hospital a few years ago with 2 seperate staph infections, bronchitis, pneumonia and a pulled shoulder that had to have surgery.

needless to say... I dont like hospital / doctor visits much after that. :)

Hang in there, and I hope you are feeling MUCH better! You're in our thoughts!

Thanks Everybody.

Yes I am finally back on my lantus, they gave me some at the hospital. Blood sugars are finally starting to normalize again since I have that beloved Lantus.

I've been trying to rest, but I hate laying around. I have to be up and moving. So instead of really feeling better, I'm still feeling a little blahh.

Not as bad as it was when I went into the hospital though.
