Alright, here's what's going on.

As mentioned in a previous thread, I have been under the impression that my Lantus has been causing my swelling.

I appreciate all the advice, but its going to be next wed. until I can see an endo (First time in 6 years!)

I have taken myself off of my Lantus. I have not stopped taking my novolog, and I'm testing like a mad man.

In the 2 days I've been off of it, my sugar has been more in control than it has been my ENTIRE LIFE, and my swelling has significantly reduced.

Just an update, I guess. As soon as I see the endo, I'll discuss all of this with him. He'll probably put me on another basal, but hopefully one that will work.

Also, I'm going to ask him about a pump... does anyone know if you can, like, rent a pump?

What kind of swelling are we talking about here, does it affect the injection area?

No, like swelling everywhere. Legs, arms, face, chest, everything.

I'm starting to think it's inflammatory neuropathy. Symptoms fit. I'm gonna see the endo very soon... soory, but after some experiences I've had, I'm NOT going to a GP. Not for this.

I'll wait it out... but my sugar has been between 85 - 150 for TWO DAYS now, which is very unusual for me. My sugar is almost always slightly out of control. But now that I'm off Lantus, its back in control.

Wow, seems like lantus is no good for you. It was a wonder drug for me, but everyone is different, ya know?

It sounds like you're using your novolog kind of like a pump right now. Taking injections every couple of hours to keep things steady? Way easier, and safer to do with a pump. I wonder tho... how do you sleep? You'd go high overnight unless you wake up to take shots?? Or are you recently dxed... honeymooning would explain this??

In my experience, and with the support of most or all medical research, type 1s need a basal. full stop. Maybe you just haven't found the right one yet. I dunno if you can rent a pump, but maybe there is a way to finance one? talk to your endo about it. Insurance covers them, if you've got it.

Strangely, my waking levels without a bolus are right around where they should be. I dont wake up and test unless I'm feeling hypo.
And Im definitely not recently dx'd... Been diabetic for almost 9 years now.

Also... no insurance. Sucks, I know. But I dont really have a choice. My employer doesnt offer it. :( Money is REALLY tight, otherwise I'd get on some kind of insurance, but my rates would be outrageous.

Unless someone has suggestions for an ins. company! :)

Which brings me to where Im going... Does anyone have a spare pump they would like to sell / donate to someone who REALLY could use one? :D:)
