Hey everyone,
So, I was just diagnosed with type 1 last week. It is very recently onset, but I obviously have still had high blood sugar a lot for the past month atleast. I was put in the hospital with very minor DKA last wednesday, but obviously now my sugars are now being much better regulated.
So, my contact prescription that was fine a few weeks ago when I last tried is now very blurry. I hear that this is because of how high my sugars were previously, and now my lenses are swollen. My question to you guys is, how long did it take you to return to normal? I was thinking about going to get a temporary prescription, but that would be paid out of pocket, and if I only have another week or two of this, I'll be fine.

I'm type 2 and my eyes haven't returned to what was normal before.

Bear in mind that this all happened 40 years ago ...
I was in the hospital for two and a half weeks from diagnosis (it was the old days!) - my eyes were very blurry while I was in there but by the time I came out I was able to read normally again. So I guess that means about 2+ weeks.

I can read but i notice i go out of focus more easily. I am WAY overdue for a neye checkup but because my eyes are weird i need to see some specialist all the time :S
The thing is what is normal ? =p
Remember no one is 'normal' :D

Anyone else? Just looking for a little reassurance that my eyes are fine, or will be if I just wait another week or so.

My eyes took 2 weeks to go back to my normal prescription after I got my BG back to normal. But those 2 weeks were the first time in my life that I could see while driving with no glasses....

Welcome to DF. Has your blood sugar level back to normal?
From what I have read here, as soon as the blood sugar levels come back to normal or near normal range, your blurry eyes should get back to normal.
I'm sure you will get more feedback from others here.

You might find that your sight becomes better (needing a new prescription) after your blood sugar being at normal levels for a couple of months. High BSs change the shape of the cornea, normal BSs bring the cornea to 'your normal' shape (sight).

My eye doctor said that my bg levels had to stabilize for 3 months before my eye problems would stabilize and get better. She can't treat my cataracts until that happens, so I'm hoping that the blurry vision should go away if I can stabilize for 3 months. I finally got into the normal range the last couple of days -- 84 fasting this morning and 85 last night a couple of hours after dinner.

I a T2, I noticed a huge improvement with within about 2-3 weeks. My eyesight is now better than before.
The advice given to me was not to get new contacts/glasses for at least 5-6 weeks.
