I have been reading the wealth of info contained in the various posts and messages here and I just want to thank each of you for taking the time to help and comfort others. Treating diabetes can be a a lonely struggle where the non-afflicted consider daily victories normal and the afflicted often suffer setbacks in silence. This forum seems to provide a place where people can celebrate & share the good times and work together to solve problems and work through the oppressive nature of diabetes. To the founders, administrators, moderators and those who post on this site I, again, just want to say thanks for this site and the information provided herein.
By way of introduction, I have LADA, currently taking mutiple daily injections (too many to count) and ordered a pump this week. While the injections can be a burden, I consider them a Godsend because I feel like I have some control what what is happening to me. I was initially dx'd Type 2 three years ago by my primary care physician but when the oral meds started having no effect I sought out an edocrinologist. Best decision I have made so far on this journey. I hope the pump will soon supercede that.
Also, I am from the Atlanta area, have travelled a good bit and have just undergone career change that will allow me to stay in one place for a while. I enjoy the theater to include movies, tinkering around the house, walking with my wife and shiba inu, and my wonderful family. I am thankful for my work and that I have insurance to cover the financial costs of this disease.
Sorry to have rambled on, thanks again,
Brent

I really like Atlanta a lot. Wish I could find employment over there. Gets a bit warm in the summertime but no worse than here. I believe about half the streets have Peachtree in the name, don't they? What's Ted up to these days?

Directions are easy in Atlanta. Just go to Peachtree Street and you are there, where ever there happens to be. I remember that when my family moved to a town south of Atlanta from the Gulf Coast in the sixties that my siblings & I thought that the fields of peach trees would never end. Nice places to drive through (and park in) for teenagers though...
I've lost track of Ted since he gave up the Braves (baseball) and CNN. Seems like the last I heard he was raising buffalo and selling the meat, which must get those with diabetes extra credit.
I love the weather here. Warm in the summer with mild winters. We even had snow one time last year. I liked the weather in the SF area (Monterey) best, you never know which season it is supposed to be and it really doesn't matter because the fog (and temperature) are the same year-round.

Folks don't know how to drive in the snow or ice storms over there. I know I once saw a car on I-20 hit a patch of ice and start spinning around. I wanted to stop and see if they needed help but I was afraid if I hit the brakes I'd start spinning too, so I did the stupid thing and kept on going. I've always felt badly for not stopping.

Welcome Brent! I'm T1 m'self for 13 years. We have lots of pumpers here, so if you have any questions they'll have plenty of info and advice. So you like Monterey eh? Me too, my husband and I got married down there. Second most beautiful place on the planet, second only to Maui, lol. Anyway, I hope you'll visit often and make some new friends!
Nice to meet you,

Welcome from a frequent shopper of the Atlanta area!!!! I live only 3 hours away in Knoxville and travel there often. You have found a great place to be and lots of info here too. I am a pumper and have gotten much info from others here to. It makes me feel like I am not in this battle alone. Good luck and enjoy.

HI AND WELCOME :)
Thanks so much for all those nice things you posted about this forum. I do agree  If you have to deal with diabetes in any way, then this is definitely the place to be. It often is a lonely struggle and even family and friends sometimes don't always understand. That's why this place is so great, most likely someone here has gone through or experienced something similar to what you have or are going through.
I hope you will stick around. It's so nice to see new members. Like I said, if you are looking for support, advice, encouragement, etc. then you came to t he right place. I hope you find this out yourself and hope you continue to discover new (positive) things about this forum.
Welcome Again :)

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome. It is somewhat daunting to post a thread but I'm glad I did!
By way of response:
lgvincent: WOW, you actually saw someone driving on snow in Georgia, most just ride it out after sliding in a ditch. So don't worry too much, we prefer to spend our tax dollars on rescue equipment, its less expensive than snow removal equipmentconfused:
Dewey: I found each of the pumps to be very attractive with features that made the decision challenging. I went with the Animas IR1200 mainly because of it's size and appearance. It also has the lowest delivery rate of insulin (basal) which I thought might be useful. I was somewhat emboldened when Shy said to just tell the endo I wanted the pump but disappointed because the appointment was with one of the team members but not my endo. I told her anyway and she brought out a big box full of pumps and infusion sets. Forty-five minutes later (and after the office had closed except for the two of us) the pump paperwork was done. The next morning an assistant called me at work and told me she had faxed the paperwork to Animas. I work in a professional environment so the sleek appearance of the IR 1200 in the leather case fits well. Thanks Shy for the encouragement, my endo had given me tape on the pump during a previous visit, but I would not have asked the assistant without your encouragement. And Dewey, keep asking (probing???), I was hoping to tell someone about how I ordered the pump. Let the insurance wars begin!
Belinda, come down anytime. The shopping is great here. An Atlanta resident, Elton John, premiered the musical "Aida" here at the Alliance Theater before it went to Chicago and Broadway so there is plenty to do.
Cin: Thanks for sticking up for me. This such a great place. I was guilty at one point of believing that diabetes is just a numbers game. One unit of insulin for every 15 grams of carbs - 3/4 units per hour for a basal equation, one unit to bring the BG reading down 50 points. I have since learned that while the numbers are necessary for treatment - it is the heart that keeps you going day after day. The information brought me here - the banter makes the journey forward more bearable.
Thanks again to all of you.
Brent:) :)

You're welcome Brent.:) Yes the heart and the banter keeps us all going and realitively sane. Just always remember that we are all here for you. Congrats on the pump. I may end up being on one after the first of the year. I know that I am definitely leaning toward the Animas IR1200. If I can ever help in any way, PM or email me at any time.
Cin:) :)

Thanks so much for sharing your success story with us, Brent! I'm sure you'll have many more to tell us in the future!! I've heard many positive things about the Animas pumps, and I'll bet you'll be able to give us more from your personal experience with it.
I feel so honoured to have been able to encourage you - the members here have been just as encouraging and supportive of me so it feels great to be able to give that back. So please, no thanks :) Your success is enough thanks for me :D
I definitely look forward to reading your future posts and hope that you'll continue to visit often!
