Hi everyone,

I am here as my son was diagnosed with diabetes less than three weeks ago. He is only 4.5 years old. I have have another little boy who is 1.5. We took him in thinking he had a bladder infection and to my shock he was diabetic...still feels weird saying that. Anyways, curious if there are any other moms out there who have diabetic children...I know there are!!:(

Hi claysmum, and welcome to the Forums! I don't have a Diabetic child but my mom does LOL.....maybe I should drag her on here? Although if I'm an adult now does that mean she doesn't qualify anymore? ;)

We do have several members who are parents of young Diabetics, and they're all great! I hope that you'll find whatever you're looking for at this wonderful site and I look forward to reading your future posts.

Welcome Claysmum. I'm sorry that you are all going through this. I'm sure it's very traumatic. Like Shy said, we have a number of parents w/ T1 kids and you'll find everyone is friendly and happy to help in any way they can. There's so much info at first to digest, and it can be very scary and confusing. Feel free to ask questions and share your experiences - odds are at least one other person here has been there!

Nice to meet you,
HeatherP

Hi Claysmom,

Welcome to the forums! I joined this forum in August because I too am a mom of a diabetic child. My son, Thomas, is 11 years old and was diagnosed 1 year ago.
He was taking to shots a day, in December he started using a pump.
This is a wonderful place. Everyone has been very helpful and supportive.
Please feel free to PM me anytime.

Hi Claysmum: A Big Hug and Welcome. I'm sorry to hear
your little guy was dxd with Diabetes. Certainly not fair for
anyone particularly a child.
I also am not the parent of a Diabetic(not yet, knocking on wood)but my parents had 3 of them.(UGH). I was one of them.
Thankfully my sister missed out(my oldest brother's twin). She has some signs and risk factors and I've been telling her the last 2 yrs. to get tested but I guess she doesn't want to find out.
Anyways, enjoy this forum and all the Great people here.

Hi, and welcome, Claysmum.

This is certainly the place to come for a bit of TLC and lots of helpful information. You may not have diabetes yourself, but you are certainly going to walk the walk for your children until they are old enough to understand and to look after themselves. Keep your chin up, and your eyes firmly fixed on the road ahead - you will be ok, ok?

Keith.

EDIT: Just a spelling error - It gets better.
