The g/f and I have been trying to have a child for about 2 years now - AND STILL NO LUCK!

Does my diabetes have any effect on my sperm? or fertility? iduno what to call it, but you get the idea.

My g/f has been checked and the docs say she is fine, everything is normal.

Im only 21 y/o and am having a hard time thinking that it could BE ME! I do believe that God will bless with a child, and I really believe that it will happen one day.

But, that hint of doubt/worry is in the back of my mind.

My father had many children... i have younger half-brother and sister, so I dont any other reason other than DIABETES.

can any1 help me some info?

There are numerous causes for lack of conception:
Lack of sperm motility
Low sperm count
Poor sperm formation

As to what might contribute to the condition, the sources are also quite numerous and many are correctable. (Stress is a biggie.) Diabetes MAY be a cause but you can be easily tested for some conditions and you should do this to rule out things even if you might not to identify the exact cause.

Good luck,
Mike

Your GF has been checked but have you been checked. You need to have your sperm checked for the reasons listed above. If your diabetes is well controlled there is no reason you cannot have healthy children. I have 2, ages 15 and 17. so far no signs in them. I have been a type 1 since I was 11 and was not very well controlled until my mid 20s due tovery little testing supplies and knowledge.

All I can offer is hope. Myself and my wife were married 7 years before our Daughter came along. To be honest, we had pretty much decided that it wasn't going to happen, so when it did it was a shock. My wife had Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), so the odds weren't in our favour. All I can suggest is try relax about it, you are young, enjoy this time together with your g/f, get out and go places together. Take off for weekends on the spur of the moment, live life, when your baby comes along, it will slow those things down for a while. In the meantime have fun practising to have a baby.

My ex had T1 diabetes and I recently discovered I have it, and we have an awesome kid together, so it's certainly possible. Hang in there man!

If there is truly nothing wrong with your g/f's fertility, then you should get checked.

Other things that can cause infertility that you wouldn't normally think about: stress because of not having "stable" jobs, housing, relationship, family; planning sex around cycles instead of enjoying spontaneity; and bad nutrition. If you smoke, stop. If you drink alcohol, stop. Those two things cause sperm immotility.

I know of an infertility doctor who tells his patients to have sex every other day throughout the month. Apparently it helps to have a "break" day so that sperm can be "fresh" each time...goodness knows if that's true, but on an OB/Gyn forum I'm on it's his #1 tip and people swear by it. However, that makes me think of the stress of planning sex, so I don't know if that would work well.

Good luck to you both. Can I ask a personal question? Why aren't you married before trying for a child? I'm not judgmental, just curious.

We are engaged right now, we plan on getting married sometime in the fall next year.

Theres a lot of us who have children so keep on trying. My daughter and her husband are also trying, and she is type2,takes metformin,my brother is type 1 and has been for most of his life and he has 2 beautiful teenagers now,so don't give up hope. It can't hurt to have yourself checked out just to rule that out. Good luck!
