i was wondering about the t1s who have kids if the kids are checked for high sugars,or if you do a test yourself with your glucometer,i have checked my son's with my meter (which his sugar was normal),i just check every so often,or if something seems out of the ordinary like if my son is drinking more juice than normal.

Hi Christie,
I am a 1.5. My son is only 11 moths old. He hasn't shown any symptoms, but you can bet we will be watching him closely. At the first sign of anything, I will certainly test him. I really hadn't thought about the occasional test, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
I'm sure that as he grows he will be curios about my testing. He already watches when I take my shots.

I am a type one Christie with five children. All of my children are grown, but I didn't get diabetes until I was 32. My daughter was pregnant recently and I have checked her all the way through the pregnacy of each of her three children. So far so good. I was concerned because her babies were from mid 8 to 10 pounds plus. Her second child ( the 10 pound one) had LOW blood sugar after birth which means Momma's blood sugar was high and the baby was compensating by producing a lot of insulin. When the cord was cut and the blood supply was stopped, the baby's blood sugar took a nose dive. Luckily, all have tested fine since. Hope it stays that way.

i was just checking to make sure i am not paranoid.everytime my son drinks too much i start worrying if his sugars are high so i do check his sugars not often about every couple of months. my daughter is 1 1/2 i have'nt done hers because i don't want for her to be afraid of me for doing a sugar test,so i'll wait until she's a little older.if my kids were high i'd like to find out early before the sugars were exteremely high, mine sugars when dxd were over 1000,i was very ill,and had to get shots of insulin every hour for 24 hours.
