It's been two weeks since I had my last doctor's appointment. I have been doing much better these past two weeks than I have the last 19 years! In any case, today has sucked since my fasting (which was 86 mg/dl ;) ). 2 hours after breakfast was 156 :( . Just now, before lunch, it's 165  . My head hurts (literally). It's been a stressful day, but jeez, I've been trying to take enough novolog to cover everything I eat, shouldn't the Lantus handle the stress? And I was doing so well... :bawling:

Stress can change your insulin needs quite a bit. My levels can be pretty much all over the place if i'm really stressed.

So you've been doing great for a couple of weeks, don't let one day get you so down. There will always be ups and downs but it sounds like you've made a lot of progress. Being hard on yourself and getting upset like you sound here, will throw your sugars out more. Freaking out could be the cause of spikes! Relax!

BTW in my experience - nope, there is nothing inherent in Lantus or any basal that will "handle" stress... stress will most likely make your basal dose not work. If it's short term stress, do whatever it takes to return to a relaxed state and weather the BG storm, perhaps with a correction or two if confident. If it's long term stress (lets say for a few days or more - example might be exams at school for a week) it might be possible to modify your dose for that period, if you can get a handle on how much extra basal would help to reduce BG, without causing troubles.

BTW my head hurts too... terrible cold. But we will both see better days :)

165 could be far worse. I go through days of 165 and I consider that to be a moral victory if everything else is going bad. Stress will raise BGs. Just don't stress out even more, you're doing fine.
