View Full Version : Drink Aloe "Juice" to help regulate?

I got this advice from a nurse at my primary care doctor a while back (she's jamaican, presented it like an old island trick). She said to skin an aloe "leaf" and squeeze the goo into a glass, mix with water, and drink. I did some research and found a few articles that mention it for helping type 2, and also that there are extracts from aloe that do the same thing.
She mentioned that it's most often used for type 2 control more than type 1, but she was pretty sure it would help smooth out anyone's numbers.
anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else had ever heard of this.
(did a few searches and there were no results for drinking aloe)

I haven't heard anything about that A Darling, one thing I have seen is Aloe Vera is often drunk for bowel regularity (you can get it at health food shops), I thought that was what your post was going to be going by its title.
Whether Ale Vera works well or works well for everyone in this way I don't know. I do know it works great for burns and sunburn!
Not sure if it's helping my numbers, but I drink aloe every day and it sure is helping everything else! I would definately recommend it. (But it tastes nasty)

You have to be careful with Aloe. There is a liquid in the leaf that is extremely strong. You have to be VERY careful with that, as it will give you a verty bad case of the runs. The aloe gel has a very small amount of that liquid in it, so, yes, it will help to regulate you. I've never used it, but we learned this during a trip to the aloe farm and factory in Aruba.
Don't think it will do anything for your BG.

Well, interesting to see that others have heard of this before (and tried it), but after hearing the laxative effect I'm not sure I'm going to participate.
When I did some research on this when I first heard about it, most of the pieces stated that there was no firm research to back up the "evidence" that it was helpful. Could be placebo effect, could actually be therapeutic. I rather not have to choke down some awful goo to find out.

I have never heard of this. I don't know if I could make myself drink Aloe, I associate it too strongly with the gel I put on my sunburns! I'll have to look and see if I can find any real research on it. It is an intriguing idea.

yeah, I just googled "aloe vera diabetes" and there were plenty of results. Seems like it's not that easy of a therapy, a simple extract would be good but this sounds more like scraping goo from the leaves and mixing with water. Too much work for me.
