Just letting everyone know that Ive been keeping my morning levels under control for the first time... EVER!

I'm taking a bolus of 5 units in the AM for normal sugar (eg - if my sugar is at 100 I'll take a 5u bolus, if its at 160 I'll take 8u to make up for above 100) and not eating anything but protein for bfast. Actually, Im mostly just skipping bfast altogether. My levels stay between 75 - 90 all morning and I'm also finally starting to lose some weight simply by skipping the morning meal! I'm feeling great, everyone. My morning levels were the one thing that I was never able to control, but now that theyre controlled I feel like Ive got D down altogether, and its great!

I also did a basal test yesterday / night before, no food from 8PM to 3PM the next afternoon, and my levels were perfect the whole time. I did take the 5u bolus in the AM though.

Im taking 56u lantus at night, but if I take more than that I drop during the afternoon. Its strange that I need this 5u bolus every morning, but it works like a charm. :)

When I was on MDI I would often take a small bolus when I woke up even with a normal BG. At the time I also rarely ate breakfast at home. Even now on a pump my BG will often rise after I've gotten out of bed unless I eat/bolus soon. It's like some weird delayed dawn phenomenon.

And then of course I have a burger for lunch, take insulin and hit 312 from 111 within an hour and a half. Criminey!

Cant win em all every time, I guess.:s:

You might want to try metformin for helping you with your insulin resistance. It's becoming a more common treatment now for Type 1's with this problem. It would help your body to react more easily to insulin and also help your liver control the amount of glucose it takes in and also dumps. I've been using it for a few years now and it does make quite a difference in my insulin sensitivity and also my DP. Just a thought!

Metformin would help a lot with that DP. But exercise is the best thing you can do for insulin resistance. I found a prgram of both resistance and aerobic exercise made an enormous difference. Here is a good article about it Increasing Insulin Sensitivity :: Diabetes Self-Management (http://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/articles/Insulin/Increasing_Insulin_Sensitivity/All).

Thanks for the article BlueSky. I've always been relatively thin all my life (5'9", 150 lbs), but I've also become rather sedentary over the last ten years. Besides the health aspect of becoming more active, there would be an added incentive of less insulin resistance. Again, thanks, I really need to get serious about it and into some regular exercise. I think I will stick with the metformin for the time being though as it really has helped with my DP. The increased insulin sensitivity was just a bonus for me.
