Okay...I have more but I keep forgetting to ask, so I'll start with these three...

What do these mean?

DX
CGMS
MDI(s)

I think I saw CGMS explained somewhere, but I lost it...:o

CGMS = Continuous Glucose Monitoring System. It tests interstitial fluid (subcutaneously) for glucose levels and can transmit that information to a pump. There's a little sensor that gets inserted under the skin (much like a pump set) and attaches to a transmitter which can relay information to a pump. If you go to MiniMed's website you'll see a lot of info about it...there are other CGMS makers too but my brain is dead.

MDI = Multiple Daily Injections

DX = diagnosis

This isn't an acronym, but maybe a tangent to this discussion. I was reading an abstract from some medical research related to diabetes. In reference to the high rise in blood sugar, the term "post-prandial excursion" was used. I kinda like the sound of that, although none of us really want to experience it.

"Post prandial excursion" sounds like a nice digestive walk after lunch. :)

In the interest of this post:

Post-prandial = post mealtime

So a post prandial BG reading is the one taken after a meal, most typically at the 2 hours mark.

And for this thread:

BG = Blood Glucose

Also referred to as

BS = Blood Sugar
Numbers = The BS/BG reading from a Glucometer

:)

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary ;) Different People May Have A Different Same Experience With The Same Food/Drug/Treatment/Exercise/Whatever...

I thought there was already a sticky'd thread for TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms)
