Hey guys, I was just wondering if any of you's had a birth home for any of your kids. I know it is not recommended, since we are at risk, and so are the babies. But, I was really looking forward to it until I found out I was diabetic. I did alot of research, but who better to talk to then actual diabetics! Just let me know your opinions, and your experiences if any. Thank you! :)

According to the midwives here in WA state that do home births, T1s are risked out of homebirths. You can have one, it'll just be an unassisted one... Google the name "Laura Shanley" and you'll find a lot of information on unassisted childbirth.
I'm planning on having a homebirth this time around, unless something seriously bad comes up.

Although I think that home-birth are a great thing. I personally think that it is just to dangerous for a type I diabetic. There are just to many variables. Good luck and do lots of research.

We had 3 babies born at home 20 years ago. The older kids were born in the hospital. Homebirth is the safest thing on the planet. There are more homebirths on the planet than hospital births. Hospitals are for sick people. Birth is not a sickness - it is the genesis of life, therefore it should be done at home where the whole environment is well known to mom and the baby that mom is carrying.
While I understand that the midwife will "not attend" a homebirth with a diabetic, the care will be there, I'm sure. Midwives are quite a hearty crew and put up with quite a bit of bureaucratic malfeasance - too bad. Do the research and the older writing - Husband Coached Childbirth was one of our doctors. I still recall many of the laleche league pamphlets encouraging even me as Dad.
While you are at it, do the research against immunizations - probably a high probability of causing diabetes, I suspect. Our kids are all very healthy and all adults now, but several have had zero immunizations. But, then - we also schooled them at home, so there was not as much disease interface to be handled. Are we odd? - you bet!! I like the one woman I know.
