Hi All-
I am checking this out- I could use some support and have never been on a forum before so please bear with me as I figure it out.
I am trained as an RN and am not working in the hospital because of my own health issues. I am certified in Imagery and continue to do that.
I've had type 1 for 25yrs and a minimed pump for 8. I am about to get a new Animas pump and this old dog will have to learn some new tricks. My kidneys are failing and I have a wonderful friend who is a donor. I want a pancreas as well and would like to share with other people who have had K/P transplants.
Ok- enough for now- Thanks for listening/reading.

Welcome to the family, Imagery. I think you will like the new Animas pump. :) It has lots of bells and whistles and is very user friendly (and easy to learn).

It's awesome that you have a donor for your kidneys, and I hope that everything is successful. We grow to care for and become close friends with the people who frequent this place, so please keep us posted on any developments. This way, we'll know you are safe and well. :) Once again, welcome aboard and we're very glad you're here.

Welcome! :)

I'm so glad you found us, I think you will be happy you did. I am also type 1(dx'ed at 24, about 2.5 years ago). I struggle sometimes managing the disease, but I'm trying to do the best I can. I guess that's all I can do.

I'm sorry to hear about your kidneys, that must be scary, but I'm also glad to hear that you have a donor. I know they often do kidney and Pancreas transplants together for diabetics. I'm sure this is what you are looking into. When is your kidney transplant? I wish you the best of luck with everything and hope everything goes well.

I hope you will feel free to drop by anytime. We are a great bunch here (if I don't say so myself...hee hee hee :D ) and we are very supportive and caring of other members. I think each of us brings something to the board and I think we all do learn something from each other. I hope you will see that for yourself.

Take care and please keep us updated with how you are doing :)

Welcome to this Fine Forum Imagery! Well, at least you
are well up on Diabetes since you have been an RN. I wish
you all the Best with your kidney transplant. You are so
lucky to have a friend who will donate, that puts you miles
ahead. It should turn out fine. I'm sure you will be pleased
with your new pump once you learn the "tricks". :D I hope
to see you around lots.

Hi-
Thanks for your encouragement. I think I would be dead by now if it wasn't for luck or spirit or whatever is working in my life. I am stumbling around in this forum, it feels like I'm ice skating for the first time and it's great to have a friendly note. My new pump Animas- has yet to arrive and I'm wondering if anyone else has one here and what they think about it. I'm off....... Kate

Hi Kate

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to get information and support.

My son, Thomas, uses the Animas pump. He was just diagnosed a little over a year ago and is still sensitve to insulin. One of the best features for him is the small basal rates. He also likes that the bolus' go in faster than Mini Med (has a classmate with MiniMed). The staff/reps at Animas are really great also.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers for your transplant.

Keep us posted.

I just got my Animas IR1200 in August and am loving it. I don't use all the features that is has, but the ones that fit most into my lifestyle. I love that it is waterproof. I have gone swimming with it and not one problem. First time in the water was scared to get it wet, but all went well.

Haven't had to contact customer service too much, but they have been great so far and the training staff was wonderful. They came to my house since I was already on a pump before. I actually hooked up before I was trained with no problems. Any specific questions ask. I am sure you will love the pump, as Dewey said, it is very user friendly.

Good luck with your transplant and welcome.

Kim
