I received a phone call and a letter from Smith-Medical advising me that some of the 1800 pumps were being recalled due to errors in reporting when extended boluses are used.

Has anyone else received this recall notice? I called and Smith-Medical is replacing my pump. No problems with pumps produced after November, 2008. I guess it is a software problem so I chose to have my pump replaced.

Here is a link to the Smith-Medical web site where the serial numbers are posted:

March 2008 (http://www.cozmore.com/default.cfm?pid=1.12.1)

Strange thing is that I was called and notified via mail but when I checked, my serial number was not listed. I am now wondering if all 1800 users have been notified. The original recall posted above was from March 2008 and my letter from Smith-Medical was dated November 20, 2008 so I guess more models have been identified. The phone call sounded very urgent so I called immediately and the representative advised me that a refurbished pump will be sent out as soon as one is available. He also said someone will call me later to let me know when it is sent.

I got called about the recall, also. The last recall I guess if there's like 7 different conditions going on at once one of the home screens displays some incorrect info, though insulin delivery is correct.

I got a letter from Smith's about the screen not showing the correct delivery if you are using the combo or extended bolus.

Did not know about the motor problem though. My pump is not listed so maybe that is why I did not get notified.

I figured if two different recalls have occurred since I received my 1800, I would take a refurbished one with the new software just to make sure there are no problems. I've become very dependent on my pump and don't want to risk any other problems that might come up.

We just returned from a cruise to Mexico. I took enough Inset 30's for the trip plus several extra. I went through five of them in one day because they didn't penetrate the skin. I ended up using syringes for 6 days and realized how much I love my pump. It is hard to regulate blood sugars with Novolog and syringes when you are used to your pump. I now manually insert the Inset 30 instead of using the built in plunger. When I re-order supplies, I'm going back to the Comfort Shorts.
