I knew I was going to be fuzzy today. Yesterday was the last performance of my school's play -- I have been sweating blood directing this production for 10 weeks, and I stayed at the cast party with my kids til 3am.

I got up around 11:30, had breakfast, but didn't really get moving til 3pm. I'm working on a paper for school, and making NO progress. Break for lunch. Keep working -- or pretending to work while I get grumpier and grumpier and more and more headachy. My husband calls to ask for a little thing and I wind up yelling at him. I realize that this is NOT me, so I test.

Yeah. 298.

298 never used to bother me -- but now that I'm on the pump and my sugars rarely go above 160, I felt like I was dying here. I check my pump's history, and sure enough -- I forgot to bolus for lunch! What a MORON.

I've done a correction bolus and gone for a long walk to calm my head, so I feel a bit better, if still a bit headachy. I probably won't get any more work done on my paper :(

We all forget to do things sometimes. At least it was just a bolus, sometimes I forget to do my lantus and let me tell you those are not fun days. I know it sucks in the moment but that is great that you feel so physically poor for a bad number. It is a good sign about how well you are doing with your BG's. I hate it when I become a witch with BG's. Good idea going on a walk. I don't think I would feel well enough. Give yourself a break it is okay to make mistakes sometimes we are all human.

Aww Amanda, Stress will not make it better as we know that contribute to the BG and the missing Bolus don't help. Don't beat your self up over this as we are not the perfect role models of endo's so even myself have done quite a few mistakes and we learn from that experience.
The main thing is you know of your situation. ;) and acted quite well. :)

Yes That's what I would have done and also take some recovery tabs with you as you may not know what may happen and avoid the low.

Apart from that, How is the paper coming along? :)

Don't beat yourself up too badly...it's easy to miss things when you're stressed. I had a horrible day last week, which had my BG running higher than I'd like. I was bone tired when I got home at 11 p.m.; Did my normal evening injection, thinking I'd taken my 6.5 units of basal (Levemir), only to awaken at 1:00 am with a terrible low (38!) - guess I'd picked up the Novolog pen instead of Levemir. Ouch! Then I over-treated the low and ended up high....took a day to get back to normal.

Have a hot tea, take some deep breaths, and hit the books...I hope your paper goes well.

I think we all make mistakes sometimes. Hopefully you'll be feeling better now that things are hopefully under control.

I've done that a few times. At least 6-10 times over my diabetic career! Yes one feels stupid, but come on, think of what a brilliant job you do at remembering normally :) We are not robots thank goodness...

It's a good sign you felt so poorly without having to shoot up really high... as you say it shows your body is really much healthier and adjusted to more normal BGs. Congratulate yourself on this! Pleasure out of pain I say!

Doing better today -- kinda. Shot up to 300 after breakfast... must have been an absorbtion issue, because I ate the same thing, took the same insulin, at the same time as usual, and I USUALLY don't go over 160-180. But that was corrected pretty easily. I've managed to avoid my usual afternoon low.

I am SO spending these two weeks off basal testing. So glad to be a teacher! Two paid weeks off at prime holiday time :) Two totally uninterrupted weeks to BASAL TEST at odd hours without affecting my teaching! (Hubby has promised to work with me on this, but I doubt he'll be cool with my midnight-6am basal test!
