I'm 23 and my husband is 25 and we have been trying to concive for 3 years now. we know there is nothing wrong with him. My A1C is 13.1 should we wait to try again until my A1C is lower and if so what range?
Thank You

13.1.. I started out at 14.2 it didn't take too long to improve that.. with good carb counting as well as of course insulin. Maybe get your diet tweaked.. improve that A1C and it might improve things.. I don't know. .. being a man that is .. but good luck

Your A1c should be at 7 or below before you even think about getting pregnant. For your health and the babies health you need to lower your A1c. Your chances are going to be much better at having a healthy baby better with a lower A1c.
An A1c of 13 is around an average of 300+. That is an average so you must be going a lot higher for this to be an average. I hate to say it but you are way out of control. Get yourself in better control and you will feel better and have a healthier life.

Awwww don't panic. You have only been diagnosed a few days give yourself time. It won't take but a mere few months to get that A1c down and with a good food regime your BGL should drop to within a normal range too. Then you can think about having as many babies as you want :D
Low carbing and an average of 30 minutes a day of exercise is all it hopefully will take for you to be feeling well again... that is what is working for me, and I have never felt better in my life :D
For a start cut out all potatoes, bread, flour everything that is white and only eat green vegies. :D
Goodluck :T

My recommendation: Take a few months off of trying to get pregnant. Learn all you can about diabetes and how to control your blood glucose levels. This will in turn help lower your A1c.
Pregnancy can be tough and you'll want to work out some kinks with your diabetes before hand, not to mention getting that A1c down.

My endocrinologist reccommended to take 3 months of TTC when I was diagnosed with Type 1 with a HBAC1 of 20 in May this year. The time off is necessary to help learn about the diabetes so you are able to keep stable blood sugar levels in pregnancy and the make sure the newer eggs which come along are free from damage. Diabetes starts causing problems over a HBAC1 of about 6 or 7 I think. My doctor said that babies of diabetic mothers also have a higher risk of spinal problems so asked me to take 5mg (5 that's right) 3 months before TTC.
Take some folate, give yourself 3 months to get stable and start TTC giving your baby the best chance of being problem free.
Yep, i second all of that info. GIve yourself time to adjust to the news, learn how to control your blood sugars.. Id defintely recommend taking some time away from TTC and learn about your body as it is now, cos there will be a whole heap of learning you'll need to do once you do fall pregnant.
Higher blood sugars can cause major defects in the eggs, as said earlier, so you need at least, i mean LEAST 3-6 months to ensure that your egg quality is good. Not to mention, the more sugar your body has the bigger the baby and the higher the risk of defects with your baby.
If you start the folic acid now, when you are ready to TTC again your body will have ti there ready to go. I'd recommend 8mcg if you can. Also get your iron levels looked at, as well as general vitamins ;)
Its a tough road, diabetes, but with help you'll be fine :)

ttc=trying to conceive....welcome huskerdtr...definately try to get the Bg under control some...trying to balance out of control Bg and pregnancy as two new changes in your life is so very hard! 1 and 1/2 yrs later and i'm still recovering from that ride...a healthier mommy=a healthier baby...and a healthier grandpop too!
Sounds good then! All you need to work on is the sugars and your on your way :)
Yea, dh and I have been ttc officially since may this year and i worked to get my A1c under 7.5 for two years, slowly but surely :) Not pregnant but then I have PCOS and will need help from fertility specialists to fall pg.. Granted, dh and I are now gonna take a break for a year, but i will part with any info i learned over the last three years no problem :)

Yep even if your blood levels are ok, doctors reccommend folate even for non diabetics trying to get pregnant. My obstetrician/ fertility specialist said if you are diabetic it is especially important to get a high dose of 5mg of folate to prevent the spinal problems of babies from diabetic mothers.

Not a dummy, HuskerMychael, I had to ask myself just a few days ago!
HuskerDaughter, I think you've gotten some good advice. Plus, sometimes taking a break from the stress of *trying* helps!

My OB's advice is to have your A1c under 7% twice (so for three months) before TTC. Mine is there, but I like it under 6% so that's where it's going to be on my next A1c check in January. I'm already 14 weeks pregnant though.
The new diabetic "rules" for pregnancy are fastings below 95 and 2 hours post-meal below 120. For any pregnancy they recommend folic-acid during TTC as well as through the pregnancy. They will want you on a prenatal vitamin throughout as well.

Sweety first flush an idea in your mind that your child can be a diabetic. For this you need to improve your HB1Ac like all advised.Chances of baby becoming T1 is more attached with Father being T1 than a mother and this I read somewhere earlier.
Bring your GS down then think of ttc like Robijo advised, also bring your weight down if you are overweight.
And yes again never get -ve sentiment take over your mind that your child can be diabetic, our faith is written on the day we took birth on this planet,no one can change it so forget about what will be next.
Be blessed,do post goodnews here so we can ask for a grand party from your papa.

You're also listed as Type 2 -- there are a LOT of 20-somethines who get diagnosed as T2 who are really just late-blooming T1s. Please, the next time you get your blood checked, ask for a GAD and/or a C-Peptide just to make absolutely sure that you are being diagnosed and treated properly.
(I was one of the misdiagnosed, if you couldn't tell :))
