I was wondering... does anyone get really sleepy when their Blood sugar goes high (above 150..) I sometimes can't do hardly anything except nap until it comes back down... but this seems really weird to me... I know 150 isn't THAT high for a 2 hr after meal reading..

I was just wondering if anyone had the same symptoms, or knew why I would get sleepy when I am "too" high..

Thanks!

Needing a nap is a sure fire sign for me that my numbers are higher than I am used to.

They don't have to be real high but just higher than my "normal".

Tiredness from BG kicks in for me more like at 210, and I do seem to be one who is very sensitive to BG effects. I am wondering if you might have a problem with dairy, wheat, something like that. I'm lactose intolerant and a glass of full cream milk will leave me very dozey.

Mine usually sets in around 8.5 or so (153) which can some times happen around an hour after supper, so a nice little nap on the couch is in order :)

I do get tired after eating and until my numbers go down....but why does a number over 200 always keep me awake at night! Do I wake up in the middle of the night because I am high, or am I high because I woke up in the middle of the night? :D I am so tired....maybe I should go eat a big meal. ;)

Read the article in today's edition of USA Today about Denver Bronco quarterback, Jay Cutler. Before diagnosis, Jay was so tired he could barely put on his uniform and get out on the field.

Hi Ohana,

Do I get sleepy? Without fail. If I feel sleepy during the day, I immediately test.

Sometimes it's confusing. Humans naturally want a rest after eating, but for me I actually feel like closing my eyes and taking a nap if my blood sugar is above about 160.

I get tired a lot, so yeah, high blood sugar definitely is a factor.

I get tired with rapid rises and slow-onset hypos.

Oh for sure. If I am overly tired or abnormally tired I know I am high. 95% of the time I check and I am right so I correct - take a nap if I can - and then I'm just fine.

hey for me it's an excuse not to do anything lol

I am so glad many others have the same issue with being sleepy. I generally have great portion control and make better choices for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is a killer, every night after dinner, I get so sleepy. I used to tease about being an old man, needing to get to bed after supper, BG over 160 and I'm ready for a nap.

I see now its not just me.

Yup, yup, yup. I'm right there with you all. When my sugars get about 230 or so, man it's like I've run a marathon, and I'm ready for lights out. It never fails. My son likes me to watch him play video games after dinner. I invariably fall right to sleep, because my sugars have gone high after the meal, and I can't keep my eyes open.

Hmmm... speaking of which, I just had lunch. NAP TIME! :) LOL.

It's funny, since this thread I've been thinking about this more... and I've found that I DO get sleepy quite low (say 9 mmol/l or 160 mg/dl) if the weather is warm/hot. If it's cold, I can stay more alert higher. Strange old thing, the human body.

I don't get tired at 150. Mostly, my body is in hypo mode keeping me awake all the **** time cuz My normal for the past 4 months has been above 300 so my tired level is 450 *somewhere around it*

But my bg has stayed around 150 for the past 2 weeks so I am slowly becoming more sensitive to the highs.

I remember when I used to sleep for days and wake up thinking I only slept a couple hours. That was a freakish 6 months.

If I wake up after 8:00 am and I've had a solid night's sleep I know I'm high.

Usually I'm up once during the night and I get up by 6:30 am.
