I am still on a sliding scale however I have been monitoring my bg spikes after eating certain foods.

After I eat chinese *of course that is very rarely* I normally spike to about 300 - 350 range

Instead of taking a bg level of normal and injecting according to that level *which in this case would be 7 IU Humalog*

I inject myself with the amount of insulin for the expected spike level.

So I would inject myself with 14 IU of humalog instead of 7 IU.

Doing this instead of using the wait and see game is paying off considering how when I did eat chinese food a couple days ago My Bg didn't go over 130.

This morning I had a bowl of cereal and my bg didn't go over 95...it was peanut butter crunch. *I Know what yall will say...holy **** you are playing russian roulette with your life...or something along those lines* I actually ended up being 65 after a few hours.

So needless to say with the actose and the current way I take my insulin, its all starting to work out and I can't wait to see what my next HbA1C says.

I completely understand this regimen.

I take a 5 unit bolus every morning for normal sugar. If I am high, I'll take a 5 unit bolus plus whatever I need to bring me down (eg - bg@ 200, 5 unit bolus+ 5 units to bring down = 10 units) and If I'm low, like below 70, I'll adjust my bolus. This is all, of course without eating breakfast.

So, I do totally understand having to accomodate for the upcoming spike. Mine just happens to be first thing in the morning. After that, I dont have to do any crazy bolusing.

I'm very glad to hear its working for you. And as far as peanut butter crunch... hey, we all cheat sometimes. Just dont make it a habit. :)

I think you are starting to catch on ;)

Be careful about being too agressive. Those 65's can turn into 45's or worse with no warning.

I too agree with xMenace.
