Hi,
I was curious if anyone else has heard about these new needles coming out for insulin. They have a 32G which is pretty darn small and they are tapered. I know we use a 28 right now which I think is the smallest. I am not sure however if it will make a difference for my son who is only 4 and a half. These needles are comparable to the lancets we use and they are only 33G. Just curious as to anyones thoughts. ...
They are made by Nvordisk???
Thanks

Hey CM. I have not heard about these 33g needles. I use the BD needles and they are 31g. I have used them for about 8 months. They are sooooo much more "comfortable" than the old 28g I used to use. They are 8mm length. You can find them at www.bddiabetes.com.
I would check with your doc before switching. I am not exactly sure why, but he told me that if I ever get the itch to switch, check with him first.
Hope that helps. PM or Email me if you have any questions.

I cannot find the link to these needles..it is funny when you ask a pharmacist of there technicions, but they are clueless to the new products. I know I work in health care and keep up to date on new products, you think they would too!
I wonder if those bd needles are only available in the states. I am not sure where you are from. I am from canada.
Thanks for your help

Not sure if I understood you correctly. 28G is larger than 31G syringes. Haven't seen a 32 gauge needle yet -- interesting!
Interestingly, some people prefer larger, 29 gauge 1/2" (12mm) syringes more than the smaller 5/6" (8mm) 31 gauge syringes. I like to think smaller is better, but some people really prefer the longer and thicker ones....and have yet to explain successfully to me why that's the case!

Hi,
Yes they actually make finer needles than 28 G. For some reason, they decided to go backwards when they get finer. They have a 32G coming out from Novo Nordisk. I am hope it will make a difference for my son who is only 4.

Wow! Novo is entering the syringe market? Or is Novo just creating pen needles that are 32G?
I guess when Novo was the first out to have the Novofine 31G 6mm pen needles, BD responded with wanting the claim of having the smallest pen needles, so they released a 31G *5 mm* pen needle.
Now Novofine will be able to take the claim for smallest gauge with a 32G needle. Very, very interesting!
