Hope everyone had a safe and happy new year! I have been reading DF for a couple of months now (I feel like I already know some of you from your multiple posts!) and decided today, I would "get my feet wet" by introducing myself.
I am 44 and was diagnosed Type 1 (11-4-08) with a HBa1c of 10.5 and a b.s. of 518. Put on Novolin and Lantus immediately. Since then, with MDI's, low carb diet, moderate exercise, a LOT of reading and "testing, testing, testing", I've lowered my b.s. to a fasting avg. of 87 & daily avg. of 121 (the month of Dec.). Most difficult for me so far is experimenting with and adding new foods. I have learned so much from this forum, as I am the only one in my family who's diabetic and without anyone to talk to, it's comforting to know there's a place to go where everyone "understands". I'm anxiously awaiting my next appt. (more bloodwork & tests) on 1-22, but mostly to get my next HBa1c #. Surely it has to be lower?!? (fingers crossed). Until then, looking forward to any advice I can get. Wishing everyone a happy and HEALTHY '09

Danny

Welcome Danny, and congratulations on bringing those numbers down! Your A1C will certainly be lower. Don't let your doctor take the credit :)

hello.

I am a newbie too!

I have been SO impressed with the knowledge here on this site, and how everyone is so patient in answering "dumb newbie questions".... hopefully one day I will graduate from
"grass hopper". anyway.

Glad to see you introduce yourself :)
From one junior member to another... welcome :)
