I have some vials of Lente Insulin that are due to expire on Dec 1, 2004. Does anyone know if Eli Lilly has any program whereby they will exchange expired insulin for new vials.

I'm afraid I don't. Many years ago, a nurse told me that the expiration date put on drugs is 6 months prior to the actual expiration date. This summer, I had some Humalog in pens that I had forgotten about and I started using it several days after the expiration date. I didn't have any problems with it.

Andy are you in the states? Usually if you have a good relationship with your Pharmacist they can help. I had a few bottles one time and they sent me some coupons for free bottles of insulin to replace the ones that I had. Can't hurt to ask, can it?

I'm in the states. The problem is that I get my insulin by mail order thru my insurance company so I don't have a pharmacist to ask to do this.

Call up both the mail order company and Lily. It may be a loss to you, but it can't hurt to try. Let us know what happens?
