Lots of uk universities are having out breaks of mumps :( There's no sign of it at mine yet as far as i know anyway.

Is this another thing that as a diabetic I would be more vulnerable to geting? I've had my mmr jab when I was little. But apparently its possible to get a booster or something.

I think i'll give my doctor a ring and see what they say.... but they might think im asking silly questions.. !

It's quite worrying though. there have been a ton of cases in a large number universities already...some quite close to mine really.

Laura, the only silly question is the one that doesn't get asked. Please don't worry what people think - if you're worried about getting mumps, then you have every right to find out about it. I hope that you can get a booster, it's difficult enough being diabetic without all these other risks around us :rolleyes:

btw, I love your penguin avatar - it's really cute :)

LauRa Lu,

yes, ringing up the Dr. is a good idea.

While mumps can play havoc with your system and mess up your B/Gs, the biggest worry is that mumps have horrible effect on reproductive system of anyone who is older than puberty.

{{I don't know how they phrase it in the UK}}

If the mumps "Drop" on you, that is, move to the lower quadrant of your body:o ---it is Very, Very, Very Painful--for males as well as females--and takes longer to get over the disease.

The way it was explained to me was that having diabetes makes one more susceptible to catching contagious deseases and they will be harder on you. So calling your doctor is not silly, it is a great idea.
