My doc prescribed me a birth control pill to get my periods regular. Can I use it along with metformin, is it safe?...My a1c is 7.1.
How long should I use to start the periods regularly?
Thanks

I've never been on Metformin but I'm pretty sure my friend (and several other women on another forum) are on both and from what I understand, it's a standard treatment for PCOS. If you want more info (I wish I had some more), I found this helpful: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A Guide for Teens (http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/pcosinfo.html). I hope that helps?

I don't have PCOS nor am I on metformin, but have been on/off/on birth control....
I didn't notice totally regulated periods right away, but they got a "little" more regular (normal) each month.
If this is your first time on birth control... Give it several months.... (it really does help to take it about the same time every day, and it is awesome to not have to worry "when" you should be starting... :))
Don't worry, I am sure you will get it worked out.. Hope this helps

Being on the pill won't cause you any problems diabetes-wise. You probably will take a few cycles of the pills before your periods are regulated by the pills. In some people it starts the next month, in others it takes six months... I think it depends on your age when you start taking them.

I had very irregular cycles before starting metformin, but from about a month after I started taking it, i've been monthly like clockwork.
