Crystal Light...
..am I the only one who was told that Crystal Light drinks are sugar-free? I've been making the packages for years, and I was always told it was okay to drink them because it was sugar-free and it was a good alternative to drinking juice. But recently I drank a litre of Crystal Light in like a 3hour period..and when I did my test I was at 27...so was I mislead? I know it has some sweetner in it..but it shouldn't make me go that high..right?

Right, must have been another reason for it.

I think some flavours of Crystal Light is sweetened with maltodextrine, which is a sugar, Batty. You'll notice that some packages say zero carbs per serving, and some say 1 gram per serving. Did you know that manufacturers are allowed to claim a product is sugar-free if it doesn't contain any sucrose (table sugar)? The powdered artificial sweeteners (except for Stevia), including Equal and Splenda, all have some carbs because they have maltodextrine as a filler to make them measure the same as regular sugar. That's why I use liquid Splenda, as it is carb free.

Even at that it's only like 5 calories per serving and a liter would not have over 50 calories or something less than 12.5 carb grams equivalent. Which should not be enough to cause a 27 reading. Now a lack of calories or food over too long of time may very well cause a 27 reading.

Batty, I was wondering the same thing, actually. It's been a while, but when I was in college, my parents bought me Crystal Light so I could have some good drink mixes. Even though they were sugar free, I swear it made my sugars rise through the roof!
I was really poor then, so I wasn't going to waste strips on a test to figure out is Crystal Light did indeed raise my sugars. And as a matter of fact, the experience left such an effect on me, I still won't touch the stuff (it's expensive and raises my sugars, why waste the money?)
IN any case, maybe I'll wade back in and do a test now...
Oh! One other thing I noted back in college: The rubbermaid drink containers I made Crystal Ligt in would get this weird, caked-on accumulation of gunk at the bottom of them. THAT freaked me out...
