I recently acquired a One Touch Ultra Smart (thank you PaleFaceGirl!) and I think I am in love with this meter. I have been wanting to try it because I am absolutely horrible about writing things down in my logbook, and I liked the features it has. I have been having some crazy numbers, and I liked the idea of being able to look back and track trends. I was a little worried about the size, but that is not an issue.

I will admit that I feel kind of guilty for giving up Freestyle after they have been so good to me, but I love this meter! I was looking at the part where you can enter health information and you can even (guys shield your eyes) enter when you are on your period! This is exactly what I have been needed. I know it's really geared toward people with Type 1 so they can enter insulin and medication amounts and it might be overkill for somebody with Pre-D, but I think this might be just the tool I need to get things under control. I'm hoping I can finally spot trends and treat accordingly.

The one thing I do have to do is call my insurance and find out what my copay will be. That is the one bad part, with Freestyle I pay $15 a month, I don't know how OneTouch can beat that.

ETA: I took PaleFaceGirl's advice about the case (you're right, the one it comes in is butt ugly) and bought a new one. It now stays in a pencil pouch that has... wait for it... the Twilight characters! That's right! My new meter and supplies are in a case with vampires on it. It cracks me up.

I received my very first One Touch Meter (Ultra) from my endo many moons ago (lol). Before I knew that you could get free meters, I bought an UltraSmart off a gal on ebay for $18. I love this meter. If anything happens to it, you can bet I'll get another one. I do have many One Touch meters (2 minis, 1 ultra 2, and my original ultra) but I love my UltraSmart.:) Does anyone else find it odd that diabetics can "love" objects that sometimes cause them pain??? Just a thought. lol.

Now Cin, you know better than that, the meter does not cause you pain (unless you drop it on your toe:D ) it its the lancet!

My bad Charlotte. :D That reminds me, I think I need to change my lancet. LOL. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Maybe I should have worded it as "a love for inanimte objects" (I think that's what I mean. I'm brain dead this morning).

I'm still loving it! Had my doc call in the strip prescription yesterday and picked it up today. It's a little more than my Freestyle Lite, but doable. Question: does it have any alarms on it? I dont' remember reading about it but that was a thick manual and I am still discovering all of its features.

I have a new one on the way. I should have it in two days. I called them because when I looked up hypo info, it was only show one reading when four have met the criteria. It's not a big deal, but perplexing. The man on the phone said he has never heard of it before, so they are sending me a new one. I must say, their customer service is excellent.

I have had great luck with their customer service too.

Yes, Alice is the vampire in Twilight who can see the future, something I hope to do with the new meter. Plus, if I'm feeling funny I can "go ask Alice."
