Im type 1 and have a little boy who is 18 months old. Im just wondering if anyone knows the odds of him developing it. Just something thats been on my mind recently.

The likelihood of mom passing it on is 4%. The likelihood of dad passing it on is 7%.

I wouldn't worry too much. :) I have 5 kids and none are T1...so far. :T

I also have five kids and type one, with none of my kids having diabetes (so far).

I think the real issue may be multiple pregnacies and type one! ;)

Hi, I'm a T1 as well and have two little boys aged 3 1/2 and 2 They don't have diabetes (so far so good) but I know how you feel as it's always in the back of my mind as well. My Endo told me that there are tests available for children and relatives of T1 diabetics that can reveal if they are genetically predisposed to diabetes. I am considering getting this done for my children when they are over four years old.

I've was told numbers very close to what Rikki said, both less than a 10% chance with Type 1. That said, I know how easy it is to worry about this, I'm a type 1 and my daughters are 3 and 5, and (so far) not diabetic but I watch them very very closely for signs, especially cuz my 5 year old is the exact same age as I was at dx.

I became T1 at age 21. We have two daughters. The 25 year old doesn't have diabetes ... yet. But the 21 year old became T1 at age 17.

I am type 1, and my daughter, who is now 12, was diagnosed with type one when she was six years old.
