I'm 55, Canadian, retired and I like to garden and golf. My husband and I have a hobby farm with 2 horses. I was surprised at my diagnosis, no family history that I know, but I've taken control and I'll be starting at the local diabetes clinic Dec.8.
I'm interested in recipes, tips, and coping with the planning that's required to stay healthy!

WELCOME LYNNE.
Glad to have you with us.
Welcome Lynne.
Question for you: Sometime before you got diagnosed, were you ill with a cold or mild cold? I too have no family history, and about a month before the onset of symptoms I remember getting that "I am getting a cold" feeling in the back of my throat, had a tough night and the next day I was fine. I think that was when my immune system killed the cold and then decided to go after the insulin-producing islet cells. (I always ask fellow diabetics who say they have no family history of the disease...)

Hi Lynne, and welcome to the new and improved greatest forum on the net for Diabetes! As others have said, great group of guys and gals. Don't be afraid to ask questions; no question is too small (or in my case, too stupid). Chances are someone here has some great advice for you.
I look forward to reading your posts.

I wish I could blame my tests on a cold- truth is, my family is tightlipped about medical problems so there could be someone out there with type 2, like me. I'm eating like a sparrow, my morning scores are in the 8's's now and I'm anxious to know how many carbs I'm allowed per day so I can make more headway. No meds yet. Thanks!
