Hi everyone,
Im a T1(for 13 yrs) and 18 weeks pregnant. I have been looking for a site that I can talk with others about T1 diabetes and pregnancy..most books deal with gest. diabetes or diabetes in general, I feel like most of theses books just talk about basic stuff. All of my friends have children, but none of them have diabetes, which makes it hard for them to relate to the extra care or whats to come later in my pregnancy with diabetes. Just looking for any extra advice and people that understand the feeling of battleing diabetes and pregnancy (the highs and lows).
Thanks for your time
Angel:D

Hi! :hello: I'm not pregnant right now but I have been twice and I know how scary and lonely it can be when nobody you know has ever had a diabetic pregnancy. It's hard work being diabetic and pregnant but oh so worth it when you have your healthy baby! Welcome to DF!

I'm trying to get pregnant a second time, but I chronicled my experience getting and staying pregnant with type 1 diabetes at my blog, Managing the Sweetness Within, at Managing the Sweetness Within (http://www.thesweetnesswithin.blogspot.com) (archives August 2006 through April 2007). Good luck to you--it's tough sometimes!

I will check out that blog--thanks :)

I am 24 weeks pregnant right now. It can be tough at times to manage good BGs. I worked hard at "practicing" the pregnancy BG targets my doctor gave me before I becamse pregnant, and that was hard work. So when I did get pregnant, it was easy in the beginning. In the beginning I found I was more insulin sensitive. About 2 weeks ago (around week 22) I started getting more insulin resistant. I knew it was coming. My CDE kept reminding me--you are going to eventually need 3x the amount of insulin--it's not a mistake! My BGs were high that week 22 and it was very frustrating. I kept making minor changes, but it was not making a dent. Finally I changed my correction factor from 1:90 to 1:40! I also adjusted my ratios significantly. It seems crazy, but now I am in a good range again. It's scary to make such drastic changes, but just trust your instincts, and ask your doctor or CDE for advice if you're unsure.

Also, maybe you can borrow a DexCom or other CGM from your doctor's office. I am going to do that because during this adjustment period, I had a few scary lows over night. I woke up 35 one night with buckets of sweat pouring down my face. It was horrible.

Also, I have found that keeping my numbers in my target range is easier when I eat smaller amounts of carbs per meals and healthier choices. And of course that's best for the baby too :) So just keep the baby in mind and you should have more will power. Though i have had a hard time not giving in to junk food on occasion!
