I did some Googling, but nothing beats info from people with diabetes.
Being new to "the game", I am not quite sure what I should be doing.
I upped my insulin some... (Four extra units)
Any other tips? That work for you?

Test test test! Drink drink drink (water)!
If control is trickly, temporarily modify your expectations and strategies accordingly, such as doses. Being relaxed running a little higher than normal, is likely to pay off, both in ease/practicality of management, and in lowered stress of trying to micro manage to "hold it down" and suffering instability.
"A bit higher" is dependent on what you are used to, where you can aim to keep things steady, and certainly below the ketosis zone if possible (which may differ but is vaguely around 12 mmol/l / 210 mg/dl)
So, adjusting your doses to prevent highs and high trends is a good idea assuming you are slow and steady, test a lot and are responsible about it - keep an eye on it, certainly shoot for good control, but if that's tricky, aiming higher is a good compromise.
Watch for lows with a sudden return to scheduled programming at the end sometime. It can be unpredictable and catch one unawares.
Good luck, hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Delphinus, sorry to hear your not feeling well.
Also, keep an eye on that fever, and treat with asprin / paracetamol accordingly and cold compesses on your brow.
Like Subby said, test every 2 hours or so if you can definitely keep up those fluids in whatever form (soup, juice, diet lemonade, tea, etc) and small top-up shots where appropriate.
Hope this helps and I hope you feel better real soon :)
A big hug from,

Jason, I am glad that you are feeling a bit better - I would have posted in response to your original post but Subby and AngelKitty had already given my advice! Testing and drinking gallons of water and tea always work well for me.
However I am posting now to say don't rush back to work - the flu really takes it out of you and you don't realize how weak you are until you hit the outside world again. Of course you are significantly younger than I am, so that might make a big difference. :o Anyway, keep feeling better and take it easy. :)

I don't think you can count on anything BG wise when you get sick. I've gone high and had to up my insulin. I've gone low and had to cut way back. I assume it has to do with what your liver does but the bottom line is TEST TEST TEST.

I did end up calling in today.
I still feel a bit weak, and scared I am going to spread it.
Altho the buddy who is job shadowing me, called in today as well. Looks like I didn't prevent him from getting it. Oops... Hah...

Tommy,
Yes, I found that out. Seems my numbers were all over, no matter what I ate, or adjusted.
