yes, it is not uncommon for diabetes to cause this. however, you are saying you were just recently diagnosed t1? I would see a specailist either way, but there are many causes of ED.

Hi clg82,
Apparently uncontrolled sugars (consistently high blood glucose readings) in diabetes can lead to erectile dysfunction, also changes in libido.
If you are newly diagnosed, this would likely be the case as it would have lead to the symptoms that lead to you being diagnosed.
I know there was a thread posted on this forum not long ago discussing this topic, I will have a look and try to find it for you. :)
Didn't give up, once you take control of your diabetes, most everything "goes back to normal" (except the pancreas!)

Hi clg82,
I found the thread I mentioned in my above post.
The thread is titled "Sexual Advice" and was posted by member Jabra1871". I believe it is located on page 3 of this Type 1 forum.
I think you'll find it really helpful. :)

The quick answer... yes. In fact, ED (erectile dysfunction) saved my life. It was the ONLY symptom I had prior to diagnosis. I had actually gone to my doctor to have my testosterone levels checked. Thankfully, my hormones were spot on, however my blood sugar was off the charts.

Talk to your doc about getting samples for the major ED meds (Cialis works best for me of the big 3), and don't fret. It's not just you. You are normal... well, as normal as you can be for someone that voluntarily sticks themselves to the point of looking like a pin cushion. LOL.

If you'd like to talk privately, feel free to PM or email me.

unfortunately neuropathy is one of the side effects of diabetes, but do check with your doc if this was going on before diagnosed as there are other problems that may be involved as well.
