Over the course of a few years I had noticed that if I didnt eat I got really shaky. So bad I had to lay down in a ditch one time until I got up enough strength to get the rest of the way home.

Long story short. Had fasting Plasma Glucose test done and it was 108. Pre-Diabities. I am 125 lbs but grandmother had diabities. Too skinny to have diabities. Had masssive stroke in 2001 and FPG test was 126 ! That is very high!

I am concerned I may have hypoglycemia and not have diabities. The doctor I saw said not to be concerned about this....WHAT !

I have all the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and its getting worse by the day.

Should I got back to the doctor or specailist for this?

Thanks, Robert

I'm newer at all this myself, so take my advice with a grain of salt..

1. do you have a meter? or are you kind of guessing your Bg to be low based on how you are feeling...this is fairly important..track trends and responses to food etc...do you have any high times...most imp 2 hrs after meal..

2. are the episodes only after not eating? or are they after eating too?

3. what kind of diet do you follow?...might want to consider one lower in carbs as they tend to be the culprits so to speak..

4. hypoglycemia is often a precursor to diabetes...not sure if it is type 1 or 2 exclusively/ possibly 2 as the problem is not with the amt of insulin produced but the resistance of insulin...and on this i may stnad corrected

just wanted to give you some back ground..
and it is ALWAYS okay to ask for a second, third or fourth opinion by a doctor...and you might want to consider an endo...

Too skinny to have diabities.

How can someone be too skinny to have diabetes?

I am type 1. I am in great shape, and I eat well.

My diabetes is not related to weight in any way, or lifestyle, or my diet.

Even with type 2, weight isn't a factor all the time. Alot, sure, but not in every single case.

Sit down with your doctor, and lay all your concerns out.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

This has happened when not eating and eating. The worst episode was just Thursday night. I had a bowl of cereal at around 2:00am in the mornig and around 5:30 got out of bed feeling very week, confused, shaky and need to get something to eat asap. Never had it that bad before.

my diet per say really sucks. I eat healthy foods but then again I dont. I have low vitamin d and an taking dr. prescribed for that until that gets back up.

I have had all the symptoms of diabities and my fpg test was 108 in pre-diabetic stage.

I was told that I was two thin for diabities but now that is hog wash. That is in response to the other post.

I dont have a meter but I have a client of mine down the street that is diabetic. I am going to see if he will let me test myself tomorrow.

If you had a fasting glucose of 108 I would say that it is diabetes. You just don't notice the symptoms of the highs. After eating you are most likely experiencing what is called reactive hypoglycemia. That means that you go high, and then your body overcompensates and produces too much insulin causing you to then go low. Before eating it is probably because your body is losing control of your glucose levels.

The whole reason I went to the doctor was the exactly feeling you are describing- low blood sugar. I too walked away with a diagnosis of prediabetes. That seems to be the symptom that catches a lot of people in the beginning.

As far as meters go...if you feel this and you have a dx of prediabetes..why not spend a couple of bucks and get a generic meter...you would really benefit from knowing how food is effecting your body and how your numbers are when you are symptomatic..and when not...
