View Full Version : Double pumping...

So, I'm on an insulin pump and I've been taking 5000U of heparin 2x/day since I got pregnant. (I have a hx of blood clots, specifically in my spleen, so that's one reason why, as well as heterozygous Factor V Leiden.)
So at my OB's yesterday she tells me that she'd like to see me get a heparin pump. She orders it, the people call me about 20 minutes after my appt., my insurance will cover it... So, starting tomorrow I'm going to be double pumping! :p
Baby's HR was 152 and he's measuring on time. :) Blood pressure was high and it's because my shoulder is in so much pain. My OB told me to get the shoulder surgery before May 31st and to he|| with the peri's advice on not doing it (only one of 3 peri's said no), so she sent a message to the surgeon that it's imperative I get the surgery before the end of the 2nd trimester. Hopefully I'll be able to get it even though they gave me a cortisone shot a few weeks ago... we'll see.
Doing well otherwise. :)

Thats what I thought. Ant Hills post confused me. Usually when you get to massive amounts of insulin they give you something like I take, U-500

Peter, no it's not another insulin I'll be taking. I take a very small amount in my pump...it's around middle-ground for a T1. :)
The new pump is for heparin, which like Carwy said, is a blood thinner. I had a big blood clot that almost killed my spleen a couple years ago, so because of that and a blood clotting disorder, I need to take heparin to make sure the baby stays safe inside me. That's all, I'm FINE! :D

Oh Phew!!:o, Rikki The lady that I see who takes my blood for the INR program (Blood thinning) has a slow heart and has a pump just beneath the skin, The pumping solution I don't know but a pump underneath the skin and she's thin as a rake, Very petite. I would put on her a tutu. LOL :D

FActor V leiden comes in 2 forms. Do you have the double gene (homozygous) or the singe gene.(heterozygous)? My mother in law just got diagnosed with the heterozygous factor V Leiden and has always had bruises from little bumps. I don't think my husband has it as he doesn't get bruises but we are getting him checked anyway.

As I wrote in my OP, I have the heterozygous form. I have had two of my kids tested (my oldest two) and they don't carry it. :) I'll get the little ones tested when they have their next well-child checks.
So, I've had the pump start now. The RN just left my house. Guess what? It's a black Cozmo! :D Well, technically not a Cozmo, but it's the same case... Different programming, of course. There are no bolus rates, obviously, just the basal which is set at 0.024ml/hr. Which, if my calculation is correct would be like 5 days worth in a 3ml cartridge... that's cool since you're supposed to change the set after 5 days.

I will definitely keep you all updated! I saw my Cozmo rep at the Expo today and showed off my new "cozmo"... he laughed hysterically, and gushed congrats about the baby. Then I helped him close the deal on two new pumpers. :D
