Welcome back Steve, sorry to hear about your eye problems. It's good that it has been caught early, wishing you a speedy and full recovery.
Any idea when the surgery will happen?

The eye doctor told me that cataracts are a side effect of diabetes--I'm a lot older than you are, but she told me that my eye problems were a result of diabetes over a long period of time, not just the short time since I was diagnosed. However, the surgery to remove them is pretty easy -- no pain and fast and you can see better immediately. When I had the surgery done I was advised to keep tight control on my blood sugar to help eliminate other problems (retinopathy) and prevent future problems.
Good luck!

 wow...that is young to have them and to be dx'd for such a short time :( sorry for you but the good news is that they're operable and pretty much painless....no sense asking how you got this way....can't change how it happened but you can prevent or trickle the future outcome for more eye probs by keeping the sugars down (as best you can)....sometimes i think the better surgery to have would be new islets (ones that work)...i'm a chicken when it comes to surgery though

Do NOT worry! I had cataracts in both eyes, so severe that I could really see - well, just about nothing! I was 13 years old, and had just been diagnosed. I had the cataracts removed, but because my eyes were still growing/maturing, they completely removed the lenses from my eyes. I wore very THICK contacts until I was 18, and the lense implant could be put in. The overall process took 4 procedures, and I see perfectly. Cataract surgery now-a-days is a 10 minute procedure, and if you can handle it, they won't even give you anesthesia!!! A few weeks of eye drops, and you'll be seeing great! BEST OF LUCK!!

Good luck. It makes me very sad to see people struggling with the stupid complications of diabetes.
This should be a pretty quick and easy surgery. I wish you all the best.

Eye stuff is alway heebie-jeebie. :p I had two taken out and then the Dr did a little lasik so I have almost 20/20 vision now with no glasses. They just drape sticky cloths around your eye and you don't feel anything. You see weird lights and instruments moving around but within a couple minutes they say, "All Done." and you'll wonder why you didn't beg them to do it sooner. Remembering to squeeze in all those doses of drops was a LOT worse than the little procedure. I'll be praying for you.
