When my blood sugar runs low, I find myself getting extremely irritable with my dh. In fact, I will scream at him at the top of my lungs yelling that I need to eat. I'm normally very mild mannered. Does this happen to anyone else?

I think the real question is: who doesn't this happen to? mostly i get "stupid" as the bigger issue...but i would say yes...irritable and anxious as well...it must be hard on the spouses...etc

I mentioned low bs on a recent thread. My lows can vary. I guess they go in "stages". Mild low, I'll get anxious, irritable, angry, short tempered. Moderate low:differnt symptoms including the sweats, numbness in lips, tops of legs, slight confusion. Severe low: disoriented, general loopiness.

This my usual symptom. Stupid, irritable, wife now knows what's up and ignores me and gives me sugar.

Sounds like my wife all the time LOL. Course I seem to be irritable always. Could be the pain the weight I have to haul around all day. Or it just be me. Been like this since I quit doing drugs. (meth)

I haven't had a low in quite some time. I used to get a whole large list of symptoms. Recently I've not caught them below 70.

I tend to get more irritable when I'm high, possibly the fact that I get frustrated about being high adds to the problem.

But yes if I'm low I can be slightly irritable, of course maybe I'm just irritable all the time ;)

Nope I just get stupid.

Irritable, beligerent or combative hypos are an oft reported thing though. Not at all uncommon.

My husband seems to notice it before I do...he'll say "you should check your blood sugar and eat something, you're getting snappy." Of course after he says this I'm definitely more snappy!:D

I just LOVE having to hear "You're acting funny, are you low? Maybe you should test" rght in the middle of a very serious moment. It makes me even MADDER when they're right and I AM low! lol. I also get very irritable when high too.

I get irritable both when high and low. But other than that, my high and low symtoms are totally different so i can tell it apart most of the time.

Sometimes when i'm low or heading down towards a hypo, the surroundings starts feeling like a dream or movie. I'm aware of things, but they feel unreal, and my hands can get very shaky:eek:

Usually, I am just kind of in a daze when I am low. I will know something is wrong, but not sure what it is, or what to do. That is my first clue to test, if I don't forget what I was going to do immediately. :o Pat or the Grandkid always seem to know right away.

I sometimes get so irritable that I don't want to eat to fix it. I get VERY stubborn. Then my husband starts freaking out because I'm low (and he's a very anxious sort) and I get even more irritable.

I also get very irritable when I'm low.

My daughter just loves to use the "god, you're in a bad mood, eat something!" line at me as well when ever we disagree about something, whether I'm low or not! Drives me stark raving mad!

Most of this happens to me, too. My fiance has learned to spot the signs, which makes me feel even more irritated that he's right when he says something about it. That irrational irritation lasts only until I eat something or drink OJ and begin feeling better fortunately. I get really irritable when running high, too. Poor guy. I'm difficult to live with, and I know it! :T

AMEN...this is me too. I also get stuck in "infinite loops" when I'm low...doing the same thing over and over, or kind of like a wind-up toy when it hits an immovable object. And I can get overly chatty, like I'm drunk...

Since starting insulin a couple of weeks ago I have experienced a few too many hypos and at first I thought I was going crazy. I was irritable beyond belief and very anxious during those episodes. It was very scary. During one of the hypos I was trying to finish cooking supper and I think I read the recipe over about five times but it was like I could not comprehend what I was reading.

It was horrible!!!

I get quite moody when i go hypo. I have stages of symptoms. First is irritibility. the next is irritibility and sweating. Then add to that dozy.. My husband knows that if i have two of the three then i am likely hypo! :)

I only get "testy" As the GF calls it when I go High and don't notice. When hypo I get jittery and kind of Dizzy/Faint.

I seem to get different symptoms on different days. I think a lot of it has to do with what I was doing at the time the low started to set in.

If I am doing physical activities (yard work, exercise) then my coordination starts to go and eventually my muscles just seem to stop working to the point that walking is very difficult ... but during this whole time I think I am relatively calm and coherent.

However, if I am sitting at a desk or watching TV then I usually get very tired and start to have problems with my vision (double vision or focusing problems).

I am no scientist but I think the way the low reaction effects me has to do with what parts of the brain and/or body that were getting the most blood at that time.

I can get very frustrated when I get lows and someone else has to point it out to me. I think this is from my disappointment not recognizing the symptoms myself but the messenger is always the one that gets the brunt of my frustration.

Although lows seem to have a lot more symptoms for me to watch out for, for highs I always start to feel warm and get very agitated to the point of wanting to break things.

I consider myself lucky as I actually don't tend to get ratty when hypo. I'm a very polite drunk as well :)

I think hypos for me are more of a mood amplifier than changer; if I am already pissed off then it will indeed make me worse. However, I'm a dull, even tempered old git these days so I'm just a little distant for 10 mins until the juice kicks in and then it's business as usual. The uninitiated would never, ever tell.

This is how I get as well.
I feel really bad for my boyfriend, he takes the brunt of it. I thank god all the time that he loves me, haha. I get short and very irritable, and if I don't eat, I also end up screaming at the top of my lungs that I need to eat. If I don't eat at this point, I get lethargic and incoherent, and then if I go too long, it feels like I'm beyond drunk (slurring, not speaking straight, and everything is fuzzy and distant). And then I usually get a headache that feels like my entire head is going to explode from pressure (mainly my eyes and top of the skull).

You are not alone!

Oh I just read this:
During one of the hypos I was trying to finish cooking supper and I think I read the recipe over about five times but it was like I could not comprehend what I was reading.

I've been here too. This last Monday I was in Chem lab at school and couldn't even subtract two basic numbers with a calculator. I did it at least 5 times, and every time was wrong. My lab partner ended up getting mad at me and doing it herself, and her number came out right and I was beyond confused.
