So this morning I decided to have a bowl of cereal and eat it in bed while watching a movie.I OBVIOUSLY over did the insulin..I woke up completely soaked in sweat and checked my BG and I was a whoping 1.5!!! lowest I have ever been and I was so scared!! I really over did it on the carbs because I was scared and felt like I was going to fall back asleep (which I did.)Then! I woke up at a 22!!!!!! Ugh! I dont know what was worse! Waking up that low or waking up that high! I knew I was over doing it on the carbs but I was so scared because I was the only one home and if anything happened then no one could help me.
Has anyone else done this? I feel absolutely horrible!

I really hope you feel better by now!
I've been there, done that... Waking up pretty low at night and overdone the hypofix and then wake up high. It sucks and really takes all the energy from you:(

Has anyone else done this?
Yup. Too many times.
I have a hard time getting the insulin right for things like cereal.
Then when I end up low I get the hungry horrors. Man oh Man it's tough not to over eat, which of course sends you high again, careful not to take too much correction else....
Is that what we call the rollercoaster?
Hey, you're new at this, hopefully you will learn not to ride that train.

Hi Amber..sorry you feel so crappy..did this just the other night except with pasta at dinner...we all slip up sometimes..just like the rest of the world...feel better soon!!
Amber - 1.5 is scary low! I woke up the other morning at 36 (I think that translates to about 2 mmol), flew out of bed and downed a couple of g tabs. Next day had a rebound high and was unstable for 2 days. Finally back in the groove.
Hope you're feeling OK now...I feel your pain!

I think it was scariest for me because there was no one home if I needed any help.I think if someone had been home I would have been a little calmer and ate alot less.I didnt take any g tabs because I find my mouth gets so dry trying to chew one up and get it down.So I instead downed a whole lot of milk and some cookies.I eventually got my numbers down yesterday...But I woke up this morning with a high number so Im thinking maybe im still a little bit up and down from it.
Thank god I have already had my A1C and dont need another for 3 more months haha.I feel a little better though.I told my BF what happened when he got home and he wasnt impressed he told me I need the "help ive fallen and cant get up" button haha.

It's not such a loopy idea - at least have your mobile phone nice and close at all times if you can get into the habit, without going overboard about it. Maybe put a normal phone by your bed too. There's no call to be paranoid - but little things like this can add safety without impinging on your lifestyle.
With that low you can almost guarantee your liver kicked in what is sometimes called a "liver dump" - the body detects that one is running out of fuel and the liver releases a whack of internal sugar. It helps to partly explain why such a big reaction the other way. At the same time it's a lesson not to go back to sleep! Take a normal hypo fix (say 15g, more if you are sure you need it for an extra low), then don't fall asleep and test again in 15 minutes. Reapeat another hypo fix if yuo are still low!
In other words, when you are worried about going low again, use more tests, and keep an eye on it, rather than overcorrecting!
Hope your sugars are back to normal. Like others, it can take a day or two for mine to stop "rippling" after something like this.

oh yeah... thursday morning, i woke up at 2.1, but i had an appointment for a cortisone shot so i overdid it on the powerade... i took a whole bottle (65g carbs) and checked on the way to the hospital for the shot, i was still at 2.0, so i took another bottle plus 2 tubes of glucose junk...
a few hours after my shot, when i was home, i checked my level and i was at 25.1... i almost jumped out of my skin! i took some insulin to bring it down but it took some time because i didn't want to bring it down too fast causing another low...
those kinds of episodes are terrifying... especially when you're alone...
Yup, many times..
I always hate the rebound hi that occurs when i overdo the carbs. But i know when i go that low my mind forgets to just take it easy and get the BS's up slowly so i end up over doing it.
Luckily i dont do it often..

Been there a few times alright... its night so you're tired and scared and then you over compensate coz you just want your sugar back to normal and then you conk out in bed, sleep late and wake up with high sugar that throws you for the whole day.

Same day as you I woke up and tested at 16. My blurry eyes didn't see the period! I was really 1.6. I showered, shaved, dressed, and went to get my BF. I realized I didn't pre-bolus and it kicked in that that 16 didn't feel right, so I checked it again. 1.6 mmol is my lowest ever recorded too. I gobbled an extra banana but didn't over-do it as my wife was driving that morning. I paid for it the rest of the day too. I hit 19.6 at one point, but I was 16+ most of the day.

What makes it worse is you go and test and see 1.2 / 21.6 and feel fine. Then the sweat begins. :( Hypounawareness sucks bad!!!!!!!!! Where is Chinese when you need it.
