Hi again :)
Eri's CDE is not back in the office until Monday, but I talked to the other. They are so excited b/c Eri is the second one in the office w/ the 515...
It looks like they are planning on us being there for class on Tuesday from 1 - 3:30...she'll wear the pump w/ saline until the following week when we meet w/ her endo as well and that is when they will start w/ the insulin. I believe she will still be on humalog. I was trying to figure out today what her basal rates will be since she's mostly on NPH(20u morning and 13u at night)...and she is only on 4u humalog in the a.m. now and 3u at night, w/ a sliding scale throughout the day.
I went to the clinic at her school and got all her readings so I can add those to her log(good LORD, she's had HI's and I haven't been called!!!)...
Everything is set up to the point that they told us to set her pump and glucometer up to....now just the waiting game! Oh, I also found out that the little liar told her nurse in the clinic that I said she didn't have to come down and check everyday b/c supplies are too expensive(good one Eri!!!...little BRAT!!!)...packages of drums were sent in...now she'll have her BD w/ her, so she won't have an excuse. (I'm going to have to show up at her school for a while to check on her until I feel comfortable w/ this whole new thing...dang...she BETTER be responsible!!!)
Figures, Eri was all upset b/c we have to leave around 11:30 to get to Tampa in time(tourist season!!!)...and she was ticked b/c she'll be missing her geography class...go figure. It's like, I'm SURE your teacher will understand...geesh...but she loves geography/history. Thank God Christmas break is coming up...as she won't have to miss any classes then!!! :)

I wish you all the best with the new pump, I wouldn't be able to sit still if that was me! ... I'm still just a hoper, hoping one will be able to come to me!
Lol.. used to HATE geography - anything to get out of it...!
Hope all goes well on Tuesday, keep us posted on how it goes :)

Hey Robin,
I always forget Katy is available when Becky is out. This is great timing. She will only be in school for a week or less with the pump than she will be home on break and it will be easier to monitor her.
I hope they can get her basals set before you all move! It took about 2 weeks (all of Christmas break last year) to get Thomas straight. It wasn't too bad. The 3am checks were tiring :o , but 3am feedings (when he was a baby) were worse.
Good luck!

That's true Nancy :) It's a blessing that she will be on Christmas break. I pray they can get her basals all set...but I do know it will take a while.
I did tell Katy that if I had to, the girls and I would just stay behind until Eri gets situated, if not, she also said I can call ahead and get an endo ahead of time for Eri and make the appt. now(plus, in January it is her 5 yr anniversary check up)...
Eri was so easy after her 5 1/2 weeks of life...at first, she had no suckling reflex(she was 6 weeks early)...so she would gulp and projectile, but after that, and she was able to suckle, she would sleep from 6pm through to 9 am the next morning(she scared the dickens out of me the first few times!!!lol...heck, you could vacuum under her crib and she wouldn't wake up!!! )
I'm usually up at that point anyway(insomniac)...so at least I'll have something to do :)

Robin,
This must be so exciting for you both! :) I'm sure that Eri will do just fine with the pump. . Eri's taking a class for the pump? I have never heard of this. When I got my pump, the trainer came to my apt. and gave me a private session and helped me start on insulin. I started right away on insulin, but it might be different for children starting on the pump. They might want to ease her into it, which makes sense. It's a little overwhelming starting something new like this as an adult, let alone being a child. I think there is a bit of an adjustment period, but it's not too big of a deal. It just means testing a little more, taking care of infusion sets/sites, and paying attention to basal rates and bolusing. But before you know it all this will be second nature to her. I truly hope that things go well for you both
Anyway, good luck with everything and please let us know how everything turns out. :)

Yes, good luck on the classes :smartass: I know you must be excited  I went ot the local hospital complex for my class last week. took the day off work and focused on learning everything I could. Eventually, all of the features will become second nature. The one thing I am certain to never forget is to test, test, test. I believe it is the best path to control and the safest way to pump. Enjoy the classes and ask lots of questions. I know my trainers felt a little more confident in me because I responded to their guidance and demonstrated that I could handle the complxities of being a pumper - and I test, test, test!

am, I am not sure if they use saline for a week or so on all children. I am glad they did with Thomas because the first nite he pulled the site off in his sleep. It also helped us work a few kinks before putting insulin in the pump!!

Oh wow....w/ the way Eri tosses and turns, and kicks and flails in her sleep(Lordy, feel sorry for whoever she marries!!!)...I should just always have that one harness thing on her!!!
Hope she doesn't pull out anything...we're talking about a girl who took off her own cast(but she was obviously awake for that).
Counting down until I hear from Becky on Monday. Still can't believe she is upset she is missing history...little weirdo!!!(she is SO my daughter!!!)

Definitely excited. Eri is going to watch the CD on the computer tonight(I did already while she was in school) and listen to that lady talk and talk and talk...(she put me to sleep...b/c my husband had the pump and got to work w/ it, so I just had my imagination  ) I had already read through the books and all the other paperwork.
Now...the next step...getting Eri to TEST, TEST, TEST!!!! I can always show up at her school and bring her on down(that'll get her to make it to the clinic, or, just have Ms. Miller call her on down, which she has in the past)...but I am REALLY thankful that Christmas break will be here and I can watch her like a HAWK. She won't be going anywhere for a while...

I think those videos are designed to put us to sleep! :whistling Even though I was able to toy with my Animas (while watching the CD video thingy), I started dozing and almost fell asleep in the middle of a button press! :D They talk so softly (hehehe)! Testing is key, so motivate Eri to do that the best way you can. :D Let us know how it goes Tuesday! We're all excited for her and you!

But you're right, they DO talk super soft and monotonous...lol. Hopefully Eri will stay awake...lol...they should do it w/ a beat to it...keep kids interested.(ok, and adults too)...lol.
Tomorrow can't get here quick enough...or, actually, the phone call from her CDE to confirm all and find out exactly where we are going :)
Time to get this kid pumping :)

TY Cin :)
It's really pretty exciting. I'm so interested in how she is going to do on the pump, what her basal units will be,e tc. It's like I want to know yesterday already!!!LOL...
I've got everything right here in front of me and just want it on her and working well...patience is something I am working on...lol.
I know(pray) things work out...especially with the move coming up so quickly(if all goes according to plan....God willing, it does!!!)
