Hi all, i'm new to the site though have had Type 1 for 21 years. i need your help!!!
I am struggling to lose weight (165lbs at 5'5 tall) and would welcome any advice you can throw at me. Ideally I want to shed around 35 lbs but every diet I try I give up after a only one week or so, despondant as i don't lose a pound - in fact I usually gain some:( . My clothes are tight - those would be the one's i can actually get on!:o The rest, sit 'waiting' for a thin me to emerge from within the flabby present one;) .
Actually, although i joke it is quite depressing and begining to have an impact on all aspects of my life. I am reluctant to go out socially as i have 'nothing to wear' that fits...... blah blah blah..... I'm on an Animas 2020 pump and do not overeat - but just do not lose!!!! Advice please.
Thanks.:)
Hi and welcome.
For me the most important ephiphany about losing weight was that it doesn't have to come off in a week, a month, or a year. As long as you are willing to make small adjustments that you can maintain long term, you will drop those extra pounds. A few years ago I decided to target 2 pounds a month - that's 24 pounds a year! I chose 2 things I was not willing to sacrifice - some half & half in my coffee in the morning, and some wine with friends on the weekend. Then I incorporated those things into an 1100 calorie a day reduced carb, higher protein diet (about 40% protein, 30% fat, 30% carb). I honestly recorded everything that passed my lips, enjoyed my successes, allowed myself to slip up now and then (and didn't beat myself up about it), and lost 46 pounds over less than 2 years. And I exercise - a key ingredient to losing weight. As soon as I dropped a clothing size I jetisoned my "bigger" clothes so I had no fall back wardrobe - and it felt great to buy new smaller stuff!
All those good habits have become second nature. I'm working on those frustrating last 10 pounds after a little hiatus, and it's coming off the same slow way - about a half pound a week. If I can't lose it all, OK. I feel great anyway and won't allow myself to backtrack.
You can do it...but you will have to quiet that inner voice that tells you can't. Look at your body as it is and find a way to love it now. Envision loving it as you know it can be. Tell yourself (OUT LOUD, please) that you can do it and will do it, and that your negative voice has no power over you. Say every day...say it when you screw up, say it when you are overwhelmed, say it when you are successful. Be your own best advocate.
Well, I'll get off my self-motivational soap box now. I'd be very happy to give you some suggestions about meals - just let me know. YOU CAN DO IT AND YOU WILL DO IT!!!!

Skelly:
I have the same problem. I even have been exercising 3 days a week. Can't loose, just gain a little.
I have cut out snacking and thought it would help. I guess it just gets harder and harder the older I get.
Have you spoken with a nutritionist? I am due to go back to discuss current diet etc.
Good luck.

Hi skellyseye and welcome to the site. A recent study said that a certain diet plan is less relevent than picking a plan and sticking with it. Find one you can handle longer than a week and stick with it.
