I'd like to post my BG numbers and get some opinions from the members.
April 08 - 109 A1c - 6.0
Sept. 08 - 96 A1c - 5.9
Jan 09 - 120 A1c - 5.7
The above are all fasting numbers.

Last week I had a blood test for something else which was not fasting and the number was 89.

I'm overweight by about 25-30 lbs. and have been low carbing for about a month. I've only lost about 6# and am discouraged. I exercise a bit more than I did before - maybe 3 times a week of cardio. My last cholesterol test was about 240, w/ LDL of 174, Trigs of 67 and HDl of 59. I was just switched from ramipril for hbp to metoprolol for quick heartbeat control.

I'm awakened most nights about 4-5am with strong, quick heartbeats which leave me up and exhausted for the rest of the day. I don't want a sleeping pill or told that it's just anxiety (I'm a female so male doctors think we're just emotional), I want to know how to control the fast heartbeat by knowing what is causing it.

My father had type 2 and controlled it with diet.

What are your opinions based on my profile?

What is your heart rate when you feel it pounding? Have you ever checked your blood sugar when you feel this way?

Those numbers are firmly within the prediabetic range, and that 120 is creeping up there into the diabetic range. If you don't have a meter, get one and test! There is a very good chance that with numbers like that your post prandials are already well over 200. I almost never have fastings over 100 but my post prandials are routinely over 200.

Pick a meter that you like and order one. Almost every company will give you a meter and ten strips for free. No need to pay for one. Do that for a week or two and see where you numbers are. You need to get yourself to a doctor! There are things that you can do now to turn this around and delay the onset of full blown diabetes.

Hi Liz!

From what I have read and can assume from the medications you are taking, you seem to have what is being classified as "The Metabolic Disorder." Therefore, I highly recommend you read and use the book Know Your Numbers: Outlive Your Diabetes by Richard Jackson and Amy Tenderich.
