Hi everyone. I'm Matt and im a newly diagnosed type 1 diabetic. Luckily im still alive to post about it. I had a rough time finding out because i had to go into a coma first the Dr's said it was a miracle i came out of. When i got to the ER im told i had a blood sugar of 1600, a body ph of 7, and an A1C of 14.5 as well as severe dehydration (they put 22 bags of saline into me on day 1). From going into the coma i don't remember anything until i woke up in the ICU. This just happened last December and i got to spend new years in a hospital bed, but the way i see it at least it wasnt in a casket. Despite my diagnosis im facing this head on and am doing well, the doctors have already cleared me to get an insulin pump and im anxiously awaiting getting it next month. I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you and learning some tips i can use to help me in the lifelong management of this condition :)

Hello Matt and welcome to the forum :)
Talk about a rude awakening! It's pretty rough being newly diagnosed, so overwhelming (I was dignosed type 1 six months ago) but made it to hospital just before the coma stage.
Glad you've found us here, you've definitely come to the right place for friendly and helpful advice.

Welcome Matt!
I am new here as well. You have been through the worst so now concentrate on the best part of your life! It sounds like you are on the right track and your time here was not through. It will be cool to see what you do with the rest of your time here on earth-you definitely have a purpose yet to be fulfilled. That is how I see it.
Enjoy the lovely people you will meet here!

HI Matt
Welcome to the forums, you have found a great place for information and support. Sounds like you had a really rough time and way to be diagnosed.
Good to hear you are tackling this head on, an attitude like that will pay off.
Lots of people here use pumps so if you have questions ask away as I'm sure you will get plenty of help.
