So. I just came home from a musical; my friend came with to see the show tonight and we went to eat afterward. We decided on IHOP. I know--BAD! I don't know what possessed me.

I ordered a fruit crepe with strawberries; it also comes with a scoop of ice cream. But hey, it was like the cheapest thing on the menu. I was about 182 before; I have taken 5 units of Novolog.

I cannot find nutrition information for their food. I know a lot of places have tables that show carbs and etc. in the restaurant or you can look it up online, but IHOP doesn't. Their web site's FAQ says:

» Is nutritional information available?

IHOP offers a wide variety of food that should allow most people to choose a meal that suits their dietary needs.

Yeah, way to dodge the question there doofus.

I can count on one hand how many times I've eaten there since I was diagnosed--I think twice. I'm pretty good at guessing carbs, but this is kinda stupid. I probably won't go there anymore now, which sucks cuz I do love their food. :(

I eat at IHOP frequently since my hubby loves the place, but I'm careful not to order any of the "fruity" menu items or those with added ice cream.

I usually stick to an omelette or the plain old french toast (not the stuffed one -- it's loaded with sugar, plus I tell them no powdered sugar) or the buttermilk or harvest grain pancakes with sugar free pancake syrup. They do offer sugar free syrup, you just have to ask for it. Since I don't eat many carbs most of the time, the once in a while treat of pancakes or french toast is wonderful.

I haven't had any problems staying within my target BG levels as long as I don't order the stuff that I know is going to send my BG levels to the moon. It's tempting, but I know I will be angry with myself later when my meter is exploding with numbers in the stratosphere....

I look up almost all my nutritional values (particularly carbs) at this site: Join Now! - The Daily Plate Calorie Counter (http://www.thedailyplate.com/users/join.php)

Just type in the name of the restaurant (i.e., IHOP) and a list of the restaurant's menu items will come up.

It's very educational (and sometimes scary!!).

IHOP buttermilk pancakes are 17g each, so that's the easy part. It's the syrup and fruit topppings that getcha. Haven't checked to see what restaurants [and what items] are listed, but I'm rather fond of NutritionData.com for my food tracking.

IHOP kind of scares me. If I do go, I get cheese blintzes with no powdered sugar (otherwise they will douse it) and only eat a little bit of the fruit topping, for 85g of carbs.

I absolutely love cheese blintzes, but unfortunately they do not love me back. I tried ordering that once, leaving off the powdered sugar and no fruity topping either and several hours later my BG levels were much higher than I like to see them.

I think that they may add sugar to the cheese filling. Too bad, like I said, I LOVE blintzes!

I watch IHOP commercials all the time on TV, and the closed one ins about 95 miles south of me. This thread makes me want to drive 95 miles!

Sugar and cheese? WTF? Or is it cream cheese? They don't have those on the menu at the one here. o_0

My favorite thing there is the stuffed french toast. Om nom nom nom....

Have not been in one in 17 years. Live about one hundred miles from Amarillo. They had two different outbreaks of samonella and don't think I would even go in one. Finally decided it was caused from wamring the syrup in warm water in a sink. Doubt that any locals would even go there.

There's a big difference between the UK and the USA in terms of restaurants... Over here, there aren't anywhere near as many chains. Some of the chains have nutritional info, but it's not exactly advertised at most of them. Any 'regular' restaurant (which is 90% of the kind of places I'd eat at) wouldn't know what nutritional info was if they fell over it.

If I go out to eat, I wing it, blood test lots and expect to have to correct. The concept of not going to a place because I can't find the nutritional info is, well, foreign to me :) We often go to a really cool Chinese place for Sunday lunch. We are typically the only English people in there, and consequently we get given the cut down menu and order many of the things we want through use of mime. I wouldn't give up going for the world.

Found a GREAT way to eat at IHOP tonight: have a willing conspirator! Ordered a Tempting Bacon Omelette (or whatever it was) with hubby. It came with 3 pancakes -- he got the pancakes, I got the omelet (probably a few carbs from processed cheese, but ok). I also took one nice bite out of his pancakes, so I got my sweet fix in at very few carbs :)

Haha, one problem with that--my friend eats A LOT. there wouldn't be anything left for me! :D

I want to go to Dairy Queen so bad, but even a small Blizzard is like two meals' worth of carbs. :(
