View Full Version : Yet another thing to worry about

Had the eyes looked at the other day- strange comment from the doctor- he said he could see micro anurisms but that it was nothing to worry about at the moment. Is it really nothing to worry about- or is that a polite way of saying time bomb for retinopathy?
Coincidentally, Lorna, I had a similar conversation with my opthamologist last week, when he said something like that to me. He said that it's very rare to see diabetics who don't have some mild signs of hemmorhaging in their eyes, particularly in type 2s, because of the fact that many of us are diabetic for some time before we're diagnosed and the damage is being done with no symptoms to warn us. But he assured me that if we keep our bg levels normal, or close to it, it won't get any worse and we don't have to worry about it. I hope that's reassuring, although I can't remember whether you're type 1 or 2.

Im type 1 although I have been for 14 years. I can live with things just being a bit abnormal- as long as it does not become vision threatening! That was quite reassuring- thanks.

It kind of worries me to have the doctors look at my eyes and say they don't look like I've had diabetes 36 years (probaby looks more like I've had it more like 200 years), so I can't help but wonder when the damage will begin to appear. I only know three other diabetics locally, two have had lazer surgery and one lost his sight for a while. Knowing 3 out of the 4 of us are having problems with retinopathy is a bit frightening.

we are all going to have signs of Diabetes, especially the microanurisms. I happen to have about 8 in my 2 eyes, with a little bit of leakage still in the left. As long as the blood doesn't get in front of the retina, it's fairly common and unproblematic. It's when you have uncontrolled sugar for long period of time that your eyes really go down hill. Be careful and just know that it's one more reason to take care of yourself.
